A Jubilee Event: Rachelle & Richard’s Vintage Wedding at the Tomes-Higgins House in Greenwich, Connecticut

In sitting down to write the story of Rachelle and Richard’s wedding I get excited all over again to relive the details of this beautiful and wonderful day!

Rachelle and Richard’s wedding for our company will go down in history as one of the prettiest and most romantic weddings we’ve ever had the joy of planning. I worked with Rachelle and Richard for over a year to design and develop the look for the day. When I met with them for the first time in our studio it was clear their want for a party that felt like it had come from a bygone era. They wanted their guests to feel transported in time back to the 40’s and 50’s– where weddings and parties were a grand affair. They also wanted to incoporate their monogram, “R&R”, and have the wedding weekend truly embody a relaxing weekend of “R&R” in the country for all their guests from New York.

We looked at so many lovely locations, but when they met the Tomes Higgins House in Greenwich, they instantly knew that was what they had been searching for. I absolutely love this property– and it was a source of great inspiration for us!

Rachelle and Richard were married on a warm May afternoon where a spot of rain could have ruined their ceremony– but instead– made it so romantic under our gorgeous Sperry Tent. They had no wedding party, so the ceremony began with Rachelle driving up the long, circular rock driveway in a classic Rolls Royce to meet Richard. It was a very emotional moment when she and her father stepped out of the car and Richard saw her for the first time. The skies cleared just as cocktail hour began and the rest of the evening was nothing short than perfect. Guests donned their best black tie attire and dinned on a multi-course gastro-feast from Gourmet Galley, who truly set the bar for delicious and impeccable food. Their staff dressed in white dinner jackets with white gloves– such a fabulous touch to our formal affair!

To walk into the fully decorated Tomes-Higgons house was an experience– largely due to Elisabeth from BLUSH Floral Design, who absolutely outdid herself with all of the beautiful decor and floral details. There were flowers everywhere– big blush peonies, huge white anenomies with dark back centers and big ivory garden roses. Elisabeth used a mixture of black footed vases and the pink rose glass collection that Rachelle had dutifully put together during our planning process. Table arrangements were created in rose colored bowls, tea cups, serving dishes and large vases. For the ceremony, Elisabeth strung blush colored dupionique ribbon down the backs of our chairs and added white gardenias.

The tablescapes featured blush dupionique linen from La Tavola with perfectly folded ivory tuscany napkins, gold beaded chargers, and lots of candlelight. Because the menu was so extensive with a lot of unique courses and wine parings, Rachelle designed a menu booklet with hand sewn binding. Our cocktail tables on the blue stone patio had pink polka dot linen. Strung above the dance floor were hundreds of feet of french-style bistro bulbs, which guests danced under to sweet tunes from Lapis Luna of Elan Artists.

Our escort cards were strung from linen boards and affixed to hand-died ribbon in a shades of pink with a single skeleton key. We attached some gardenias and little flowers to the display– which I loved! Rachelle wore two stunning dresses for the day, changing out of her beautiful ceremony gown into a fun, playful tulle shortie for the rest of the party. After dinner, guests enjoyed a delicious dessert table paired with dessert wines.
