The vineyard is not only one of my favorite spots in Connecticut, but it has also been the location for some of our prettiest weddings.

Diana was there the day of to make sure it all went down according to plan. Here’s what she says:

The Winemakers Dinner is an annual soiree where the winery’s case club members have the chance to wine and dine and enjoy a night out. It was chilly then in February, but no one remembered as soon as they were greeted with a smooth glass of wine and impeccable hors d’ouevres courtesy of Gracie’s in Providence Catering. Our taste buds were in for such a treat that evening as Gracie’s prepared a five course meal including gnocchi, monkfish, and the freshest ingredients while pairing it with Jonathan Edwards’ libraried wines. I highly recommend the Napa Valley Zinfandel Port!

One of my favorite moments was the enlightening video that our good friend, Mike Cyr from Buzz Media compiled of behind-the-scenes wine making, from grape to bottle. There were a few special moments of the Jonathan Edwards Winery team as well–what a fun camaraderie! It was such a pleasure to be a part of that night!

Anthony DeCarlo was on hand to capture the whole evening on film.

For this winter dinner, which took place in the Barrel Room, we wanted a look that was clean and masculine. To achieve that, we drew inspiration from one of the masters of menswear, Ralph Lauren. His classic styles were the perfect inspiration for creating a mood that felt luxurious, yet still relaxed.

On the tabletop, twine wrapped menus were folded into textured napkins, and cream-colored linens helped add a warm glow to the room. Lush floral arrangements from Blush Floral Design sat in sturdy urns and were accented with feathers and pops on burgundy. For a final touch we couldn’t resist surrounding each table with sleek ghost chairs.

What can be said about Christina, Doug, and their families? They had a wonderful amount of love between each other and could not wait for this wedding! Nothing in the world could have stood in the way of their bursting excitement, shown through every moment and every detail. The anticipation for this day was so contagious that no one could help but smile from ear to ear in their presence!

We are so thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in the grand opening of a new event space here in Connecticut.

The historic Lace Factory is reopening it’s doors after being renovated, renewed, and refreshed by Cloud Nine Catering. It’s a unique and industrial style space in the quaint town of Deep River– located directly across from the antique Essex Steam Train (which is also available for events!).

Cloud Nine Catering, along with Jubilee Events and our other creative talents below, have put together an evening of local food, delicious cocktails, good music, and unique ambiance. We look forward to seeing our industry friends and professionals on May 4th between 6-10 pm.

Costa Rica is an amazing country to have your destination wedding! Rich in culture, nature, and the good life, Costa Rica has become one of my favorite places in the world. The air is clean, the water clear, the rain forests dense with colorful vegetation and animals. Having been to Costa Rica twice last year, I was really inspired by the surrounding nature and Anthropologie’s newest catalog. Don’t they go hand-in-hand? The 70’s vibe is so stylin’ right now and I just love mixing patterns. I feel like sometimes people get nervous mixing patterns, and while you need to do it well in order for it to work, the end result has a major style impact! The best piece of advice in mixing patterns is to make sure one element is cohesive— color. If you can match tonality of color your patterns can range in whatever style and design you choose!

This board oozes an element of quirkiness and takes advantage of all that Costa Rica has to offer. I never advocate fighting with natural elements— you should embrace them! We have a lot of elements happening here, but a repeat of color and style. I love the vintage travel posters, the gorgeous anthropologie painting with the suitcase and shoes (the muse for this board!) and that amazing photograph of the Costa Rican rain forest.

Since our trips to Costa Rica have resulted in a incredible collection of work, we’re going to be showcasing our images by Carla Ten Eyck and her team on the first level of The White Dress by the shore. Our third Destination takes us back over to Europe to one of my favorite cities which continues to be a constant source of inspiration for our personal and professional projects here at Jubilee Events. Paris. What’s not to like about the city of lights and the city of love? Cobblestone streets, croissants, Bordeaux, Champs de Elysee, croque madame, The Metro, Marie Antoinette, corner street cafes, Chanel, Dior, Louboutin, Vuitton, Givenchy, YSL… need I say more? With this Parisian inspired board we took a cue from the French ballet and a place I heart with every fiber of my macaron loving being: Ladurée. I love the idea of being inspired by tulle and tutus, high buns, dramatic makeup, and those beautiful bites of perfection from Ladurée. We took the signature Ladurée green as a starting point and worked in the colors of champagne, gold, and brown to accentuate.

When being inspired by Paris, remember the gorgeous architecture of the city (no matter where you are– everything is beautiful); a romantic stroll along the Seine river; up and over the brides along cobblestone streets; the delicious nosh and nibbley: the croissant, cafe creme, onion soup (yum!), and eggs for dinner; the delicateness of Parisian style in both food and fashion; Montmartre with its steep hills, artisan culture and stunning views; famous french dames such as Marie Antoinette, Coco Chanel and Brigitte Bardot; gild and excess of musée du Louvre and le château de Versailles. There is so much inspiration to be had.

And as the great Audrey Hepburn once said… Paris is always a good idea.

We hope you’ve saved the date for an amazing afternoon of inspiration. Our first destination was inspired by the romantic island of Capri where we brought in soft colors and dreamy fabrics.

For our next destination, we had to pay homage to the destination that inspires us daily: New England. What do you think of when you think of the great north east? Shades of white and blue, a breezy and cool shoreline, nautical details (stripes/seersucker, shipping knots, sail cloth), Adirondack chairs, clams, oysters and lobster, changing of the seasons, matching pearl necklaces and earrings, Federal Style architecture, the epic blue blazer… Martha’s Vineyard, Kennebunkport, Watch Hill, The Cape and of course nearly every town on the Connecticut shoreline. One thing I love about New England (aside from all those things) is that it can inspire so many different styles— and we intend to use none of the above.

Our muse is found in one of my favorite fashion brands and icons: kate spade. To me, kate is infinitely preppy, feminine, classic and, to put it simply, perfect. What could be more New England than that? With her lady-like silhouettes, high heels, bright lipstick and baubles, kate spade embodies everything about my favorite New England fashion icon, Jackie Kennedy— who was the epitome of the classic look with a modern twist.

I can’t wait to show you what we have in store for this look. If you are a New England lovin’ kate spade gal like me, be inspired by bright colors, simple patterns, chunky jewels, color blocking, a bit of sparkle and tailored fabrics. Their brand is so consistent in everything they put together, from the classic and sleek shapes of their staple hand bags to the cheeky little message waiting for you in your new box of perfume. kate spade is about being pretty and fun!

Our event is going to explore some of the most beautiful and romantic destinations for your wedding. This week, we’re featuring the island of Capri located on the Almalfi Coast in Italy. This is, hands down, one of my favorite coast lines in the world. When I think of Capri I’m reminded of food, fashion, and architecture. Can’t you see yourself hand-in-hand walking the streets in a mini linen shift dress, long hair and a big blue floppy sun hat? Well, I can!

With it’s turquoise coast line, rich italian food, rocky cliffs, windy streets, gorgeous boats, local artisans and diverse history it is an amazing location for a destination wedding! We can’t wait to share with you our mini Capri-inspired wedding at our Destination Weddings Event, but in the mean time, here is our inspiration board…

Purely romantic, carefree and colorful, our board was inspired by the natural landscape of Capri– the interesting colors and textures– along with the dreamy ocean views. You don’t have to be in Capri to evoke the ambiance and atmosphere there– bring in this color palette along with diverse patterns, smooth finishes and rough textures. Build a menu around regional Almalfi Coast dishes, robust with fishes, lemon (!), handmade pasta, cheeses, and fresh local vegetables. And of course, wine! Be inspired by their beautiful architecture with its greco-roman curved arches, stucco finishes and tiled floors. Think about the narrow windy streets, fresh food markets, local textile artisans, little piazza’s and houses built into the cliff side.

I wanted to congratulate our friends and neighbors, Ana and Garry from Ana’s Custom Cakes, for their recent feature on The Today Show’s “The Today Show Throw’s a Wedding.” Ana’s gorgeous cake was voted as the best among those designed for this amazing wedding by fans and peers. The cake she created was truly stunning, with four tiers of alternating flavors, adorned with hand-made sugar flowers. Just gorgeous!

I met with the lovely Christine D’Angelo of Azalea Floral Design, a Connecticut based floral design company. She turned me on to the idea of using locally grow, fresh Connecticut flowers in your event. Christine and her team will pick and acquire locally grown flowers for your event to be used through out your decor. This is a really great way to support your local Connecticut small business and farms. Christine has also said that this option is affordable, but couples need to have an open color story as some varieties and colors are not always available.

To view the first portion of this shoot check out my previous post, here! I collaborated with Elisabeth of BLUSH floral design and Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore on the color story of teal and pink. All the hair and makeup was done by the talented and super amazing Dana Bartone & Co., who are responsible for making almost ALL of my brides gorgeous on their wedding day (me included)!! My studio roomie Thomas Morlock of Vantage Point Films also shot the entire event from his viewfinder. He ate all the cake AND drank all the champagne!!!

Soo… is Signature Event Rentals not awesome? Their furniture totally made our tablescape go from cool to incredible. I loved their white dining table and we decided to use their Alice Pop hot pink chairs, mixed in with the white padded, clear backed. Elisabeth created a series of beautiful and simple pink arrangements down the center of the table in vintage milk glass containers… gorgeous!!

Party Rentals Ltd in Greenwich and New Preston supplied the hot pink glass chargers and some of the dinner plates. We also used their gold rimmed wine / champagne glasses and gold flatware. All the other pieces are vintage china (lots of limoges), including the tea cups and saucers, white/gold dinner plates and the aqua soup bowls are all courtesy of my friend and etsy shop owner, Jen. Check out her store, Jen’s Closet!

I added little bottles of Moet at each place setting and floated white raspberries in each champagne glass (they were yum!). The beautiful art deco napkins came from this fabulous antique store in Seymour, Connecticut called Yesterday’s Luxuries. They are made of linen and are so delicate and beautiful! Definitely a set of keepers.

All the hair and makeup was done by the talented and super amazing Dana Bartone & Co., who are responsible for making almost ALL of my brides gorgeous on their wedding day (me included)!! My studio roomie Thomas Morlock of Vantage Point Films also shot the entire event from his viewfinder. Plus, he drank all the champagne.

For those of you who don’t know, Carla runs an amazing workshop for photographers once a month where she spends an entire day shooting, educating, and discussing her artform. I’ve attended two Ten Eyck Tuesdays and Carla is amazing!! If you are a photographer in the area (you should travel here if your not!) I highly recommend Carla’s workshop. They are so thorough and detailed. Plus, Carla puts the sass in sass-a-frass.

The location for the shoot was really awesome. The building is an interior designer’s dream, full of lots of shops from furniture to lighting. We took over a blank industrial space with nothing except a few sheets of unused drywall laid up against the wall.

This gorgeousness is all courtesy of Carla and Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore who dressed and styled our gorgeous models. Don’t you just LOVE this short wedding gown and feather hair fascinator? It was so delicate and pretty in person! I could have played dress up for hours with all the amazing accessories Beth brought.

That gorgeous, vintage pink bouquet is by the equally talented Elisabeth of BLUSH floral design. I love Dan’s peacock feathered boutonniere. Can you see the peacock feathers tucked into Mandie’s bouquet? Check the neck collage of images!

Pretty gorgeous, right? The furniture is from my FAVORITE rental company, Signature Event Rentals, who are responsible for most of the awesomeness you see. That gorgeous white couch? The clear-backed and hot pink dining chairs?! The leather tufted wall panels?!?! The WHITE dinning table?!?!?! Yeah, they pretty much rule. They’re the best, hands down, and we LOVED having their furniture at the shoot!

Elisabeth created a bed of tightly arranged hot pink carnations for our escort cards, which were pennant flags that I made and hand wrote in gold ink. Antonia from Flower upon Flour blew us away with her tasty little gold petit fours with the hot pink fleur de lis… but the pièce de résistance was definitely her INSANE cake!!

Antonia and I had discussed the color story and inspiration behind the shoot… and when she showed up with this…. we were like… seriously?! A teal cake with a gold birdcage on top and hot pink feathers?!

Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore and Christine Toner of Stonington Paperie+Design have put together a very informative and fun series of conversations with leading wedding experts at their boutique in Clinton, Connecticut. I love that they are doing this — linking brides with the industries top professionals in a relaxed and inviting environment.

The event is scheduled to take place on March 22nd from 1:00-3:00 PM at The White Dress by the Shore in Clinton and features Michelle Rago, acclaimed event and floral designer and author of ‘Signature Weddings, Creating a Day Uniquely Your Own.’ The day will begin with a panel discussion moderated by Brides.com senior editor and author Anne Chertoff. The event’s creators will also join the conversation to discuss the event’s topic- “Perfect Planning for the Perfect Wedding”. The discussion will last about an hour and give brides the opportunity to ask the experts their own questions. It will be followed by a book signing featuring both Michelle’s Signature Weddings book and Ann’s wedding organizer from Russell+Hazel.

The March 22nd event is complimentary, but guests who wish to attend must RSVP as space is limited. Reservations can be made by calling 860.669.4596.

It’s located in downtown Clinton in a historic and beautiful old home (I think she said it was over two hundred years old!). The boutique is so inviting and beautifully designed; it is, in every sense of the word, the essence of what a bridal boutique should be. I was so impressed by every element of White Dress – from the beautiful décor, to the unbelievable inventory of gowns by Anne Barge, Priscilla of Boston, Judd Waddell, and so many more. Beth also introduced me to a line of gowns by a very up-and-coming Connecticut designer, Modern Trousseau, which I have to admit, where unbelievable. So exquisite and different from other gowns on the market. I’m really looking forward to meeting the creative force behind this beautiful line (and maybe walking down the aisle in a Modern Trousseau gown myself!) Plus, they are handmade right here in Woodbury, Connecticut. What could be better than celebrating and supporting a local designer? Along with her impeccable inventory of gowns she also carries a darling line of flower girl dresses by Annie Girl which I immediately fell in love with. They were so unique and playful. White Dress also has a variety of Mother of the Occasion gowns which were unique and different – not your typical mother of the occasion flare. She also carries some tremendous accessories – from veils to beautiful and ornate Swarovski crystal hair jewelry, and lace bolero jackets. I was in heaven!

Beth and her staff recently launched Chic by the Shore, which is located right behind White Dresses’ main building. It is an interesting concept that is super beneficial to brides. It’s a fusion of bridesmaid gowns and invitations by Stonington Design+Paperie (which might be one of the only couture invitation designers in the state – but more on Christine and her fabulous creations later! She needs a post all her own!). I love the idea that a bride can have the White Dress by the Shore “experience” not only when buying her gown, but also gowns for her attendants and when designing her invitations. I feel it is important, too, to define the type of experience a bride can expect when visiting White Dress and Chic by the Shore. Beth and her staff are so incredibly attentive and invested in each and every client that they work with. Beth has an extraordinary love for fashion and weddings, and it is so evident in how enthusiastic she is about each and every item that she carries. They develop wonderful relationships with their clients and their families. It is the type of environment where in three years from now, when you attend your best friend or sister’s fitting, they will remember you and every detail of your wedding that you shared.

They also have a wonderful alterations policy which is a bit different from other bridal boutiques in the state and really ends up benefiting the bride. White Dress also uses local seamstresses in Clinton, but has a network of talented seamstresses in other areas of the state for brides who can’t make the travel to their boutique for alterations.

I really encourage all my readers who are searching for their gown to make an appointment at White Dress. I can’t wait for my own appointment to try on gowns and find the one!

I had the opportunity to tour the Old State House in Hartford this past Saturday afternoon. Elisabeth from Blush Floral tipped me off to this special location a few weeks ago. It is an absolutely amazing venue that should be on your list of unique and interesting places for your wedding ceremony or reception. It is right smack dab in the middle of downtown on Main Street, only a stone’s throw away from some very popular Hartford wedding spots (a.k.a. the Goodwin Hotel, Wadsworth Museum, and Gershon Fox Room to name a few). They offer both indoor and outdoor ceremony options and you can rent out the state house for the reception!

oldstatehouse4.jpgFor indoor ceremonies the wedding would take place in the luminous court room on the main floor. Words cannot describe how beautiful this room is – and the light that floods the antique hardwood floors and white columns in truly amazing. The windows are two stories high and look out onto our beautiful capitol city. I love the acoustics in the room too – they are very pronounced and dramatic. Plus, look at that chandelier! It is four times bigger than it looks in person!

Outdoor ceremonies take place on the front lawn, overlooking the beautiful architecture of the state house. There is also an option for a tented reception on this beautiful lawn, which is enclosed by an antique wrought iron fence and gate. I especially loved the spiral staircase outside, which I unfortunately have no pictures of. But the staircase makes for beautiful bridal portraits and photographs.

The state house also has a few empty rooms that are on a smaller scale than the court room, but are equally beautiful. The front lobby would make for a beautiful cocktail area and I loved the dramatic staircases leading up to the second story and the checkered marble floors. The rooms to the left would be great for an afterhours lounge or photobooth. The court room is turned over after the ceremony for the reception. I believe it can seat 85 persons comfortably for a sit down dinner with 120 for a standing cocktail reception. What I love best is the historical significance that the Old State House provides to your wedding ceremony.
