Right around this time last year I was toasting my best girl friends and getting ready to head to the altar. Although a year has passed, I still have crystal clear memories from the entire day. I remember the little things–like how nervous I got during our first dance because my shoe kept slipping off or the moment right after the ceremony when I got to peek inside my new wedding band and read the message my husband had engraved in it. And it will be hard to forget the big moments, like our vows. I remember looking at Keith and thinking, “Nothing else can top this.”

While our ceremony was special (Keith’s parents were married at the same church, and the priest married my parents years earlier) I didn’t neglect the very important party that followed. I picked The New Haven Lawn Club even before I stepped foot inside. I knew from looking at pictures that it was everything I wanted in a wedding venue. Those chandeliers! The black and white floors! The tiled mirror in the ballroom! It was the second time in my life that I experienced love at first sight.

The venue set the tone for the design: Elegant and romantic with vintage touches. I settled on a color palette of blush, apricot and champagne. I wanted the room to be decorated in soft, monochromatic tones and accented with gold and ivory. Elisabeth from Blush Floral Design created the beyond gorgeous florals for the day. She used lots of lush blooms like garden roses, peonies, ranunculus and sweet peas. I wanted to display the centerpieces in something different so my mom and I collected vintage cut glass cake stands. We found them in all shapes and sizes and I loved how they made each table look just a little bit different.

Keith and I knew we didn’t want a traditional wedding cake, so we decided to have eight! Sweet Maria’s in Waterbury helped us bring our vision to life–a cake buffet featuring confections in flavors like Mexican Hot Chocolate, Orange Creamsicle and Heath Bar Crunch. This quickly became my favorite detail from the day. Not only did it look pretty, our guests loved having so many flavors to choose from.

While our wedding design evolved mostly around cake, our lives are really ruled by pizza–mainly pizza from Pepe’s in New Haven. Since it’s our favorite Friday night dinner we decided it was the perfect location for pictures. Cynthia Brown got some amazing shots of us outside our favorite restaurant and throughout the entire day. Have a look!

The vineyard is not only one of my favorite spots in Connecticut, but it has also been the location for some of our prettiest weddings.

Diana was there the day of to make sure it all went down according to plan. Here’s what she says:

The Winemakers Dinner is an annual soiree where the winery’s case club members have the chance to wine and dine and enjoy a night out. It was chilly then in February, but no one remembered as soon as they were greeted with a smooth glass of wine and impeccable hors d’ouevres courtesy of Gracie’s in Providence Catering. Our taste buds were in for such a treat that evening as Gracie’s prepared a five course meal including gnocchi, monkfish, and the freshest ingredients while pairing it with Jonathan Edwards’ libraried wines. I highly recommend the Napa Valley Zinfandel Port!

One of my favorite moments was the enlightening video that our good friend, Mike Cyr from Buzz Media compiled of behind-the-scenes wine making, from grape to bottle. There were a few special moments of the Jonathan Edwards Winery team as well–what a fun camaraderie! It was such a pleasure to be a part of that night!

Anthony DeCarlo was on hand to capture the whole evening on film.

For this winter dinner, which took place in the Barrel Room, we wanted a look that was clean and masculine. To achieve that, we drew inspiration from one of the masters of menswear, Ralph Lauren. His classic styles were the perfect inspiration for creating a mood that felt luxurious, yet still relaxed.

On the tabletop, twine wrapped menus were folded into textured napkins, and cream-colored linens helped add a warm glow to the room. Lush floral arrangements from Blush Floral Design sat in sturdy urns and were accented with feathers and pops on burgundy. For a final touch we couldn’t resist surrounding each table with sleek ghost chairs.

My name is Libby Basile and I am so excited to join the Jubilee Events team in the spring—the same time so many newly engaged couples are beginning their wedding plans. I can’t wait to meet all the new brides sporting sparkly engagement rings. It’s the same way I felt when I saw the work that Jubilee Events has done all over the state. I am simply smitten. Candice and her staff create the most beautiful and well thought out events, and I just knew that I had to be a part of the team.

I recently moved to Connecticut from New York City where I worked as a magazine editor for seven years. My first editorial gig was with Modern Bride. I hauled huge garment bags across the city and spoke with real brides being featured in upcoming issues. If I wasn’t pouring over magazine proofs, I was sorting through piles of accessories in the fashion closet. That’s when I absolutely fell in love with weddings. Now, I’m thrilled to transfer my editing skills to event planning.

I live in New Haven with my husband who graciously let me take over the plans for our big day last spring. We wanted a wedding that was unlike any other but still incorporated all the things that are meaningful to us as a couple (including Pepe’s Pizza). I treated the planning of my own event the same way I would any other—with tireless perfection and attention to detail.

When I don’t have my head buried in the latest wedding magazine I’m in the kitchen trying out a new recipe, roaming through one of Connecticut’s beautiful vineyards with family and friends or spending more than I should on a new dress or pair of shoes—even if I don’t have anywhere to go. My motto is a girl should always be prepared!

I had the opportunity to co-design a tablescape with my colleages Tony and Cat of Datura: A Modern Garden this summer at the Ocean House for Grace Ormonde. We were sent an image of a beautiful water colored Elie Saab gown to use as inspiration– and this is what we came up with! We used a gorgeous mirrored dinning table with chargers made from floral in shades of blue, pink and green. Victoria Ghost Chairs were accentuated with white petal chair backs with rhinestone broaches. Posh Paperie created gorgeous triple mounted menu cards with a beautiful floral water color motif. Tony and Cat created this gorgeous orchid chandelier that we suspended above the table.

{ the many exciting places we’ve gone in 2010 }

This week we’re taking restful time off to plan for the new year– and part of that is reflecting on all that we’ve done in 2010. As I look back at our incredible season, filled with so much travel, amazing collaborations,  first dances, exciting adventures, new friends, and the best clients in the world– I’m reminded of all that we’ve accomplished, seen, and been part of. With such a busy year, it has been easy this week to unwind and relax.

A huge thank you to our 2010 married clients and their families– and our soon-to-be wedded clients– your year is almost here! We also must thank our incredible colleagues who worked so hard this past year to exceed expectations and produce beautiful, delicious, stunning, and memorable events.

2011 will certainly bring a whole set of new adventures and experiences– and we can’t wait to get started!

When I stepped back, I realized all of my favorite blogs are so enjoyable to read because people put their passion into words. You can read their energy and everything they love into the story they portray. The pictures, of course, assist in the excitement, but I feel like I’m living the day, not just reading about it! I’ve been with Jubilee Events now shortly more than a year. To put this experience into words is going to be contesting, but I’ll sort out all of the excitement and recapture it.

When I started off with this company, I was the intern. Like anyone, I was somewhat terrified because I wanted to impress Candice and all of her industry friends. I wanted them to see what I knew–I had found something that I loved to do and immerse myself in. Not many people are lucky enough to find that. I wanted to stay late, I wanted to do whatever I could do to help! I craved (and still do) the feelings of oncoming carpal tunnel from the endless emails sent out; I longed for the sore feet from spending hours in heels when working a ceremony and reception. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning when I’m tying ribbon, cutting and folding menus, alphabetizing escort cards, and rearranging chairs. Rereading this, I might be a bit nuts, but this is what floats my boat!

Quite frankly, I love weddings! I wanted to work more hours than existed in my day just to learn the ins and outs. I knew I had someone to model after and was learning from someone amazing, not just because she dresses so fashionably, is witty, and listens to Michael Jackson, but because she knows what she’s talking about. Candice is savvy and smart, so learning from her is a privilege! And let me tell you, the people she is friends with in this industry are AMAZING!!! I am so fortunate to know them and work with them! Even more so, I’ve been to new places with them.

Back in January, we traveled to New Orleans for a photoshoot! Whenever I hear a jazz band or watch the Saints (yes, I actually tuned into football more after this trip), I go back to the streets of NOLA and relive our shoot! In April we went to Costa Rica, which luckily enough we just returned from a few weeks ago! In April, we fought off lizards and humid driven hair–this time it was the raccoons going after any food we had and the pretty jewels Beth brought with her. They were full AND fashionable by the end of that day! Check out some behind the scenes here as well as pictures from shootsI and II! Looking at those pictures from our photoshoots, I’m reminded every time why I love this job so much. It’s not just meeting unique couples and hearing their story, but the creativity you explore and people you meet along the way.

In between all of those trips, we had weddings with some of the most beautiful couples with the coolest families and the most glamorous of days. Amanda and Brian, Allie and Jacob, Jessica and Frank, Danielle and John, Rose and David, Jill and Joseph, Saryn and David, Beth and Marco, Katherine and John, Anna and Matt, Sally and Oliver, Kelly and Paolo, Jennifer and Clark, Nichole and Tim, and Melissa and Peter–thank you for allowing me to be a part of each of your weddings. They were all so fun and so special! I wish you all every happiness and love that was present on your day!

As for now, well, I’m beyond thrilled to be able to share with all of you the weddings from 2011. I’m excited for our couples and all of the details unfolding for their day!! I hope to be able to bring you all stories about what we’re doing in between and all the great people we get the chance to work with! If this year was any indication as to what next year will bring, well then I’m waiting for the ball to drop in Times Square now! Hope everyone has a great holiday season!

I’ve just settled back into work after a whirlwind weekend that began in Rhode Island for Nichole and Tim’s wedding and ended at the New York Public Library attending The Knot’s Market Gala and 15th Anniversary Party. Fabu! I attended runway shows and showroom appointments with my fashionable friend Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore and previewed collections by Modern Trousseau, Anne Barge, Judd Waddell, Amy Kruschel, Priscilla of Boston, Melissa Sweet, and many more. I can’t wait to share with you all the fashion that will be coming to The White Dress by the Shore! In the meantime, here are some photographs of us and our friendly crew at The Martha Stewart Market Party and The Knot Gala!

First up.. the super cute smile booth at the Martha Party held in their offices. LOVE this booth by smilebooth. It’s as if it was made for my ensem! On a side note… we’re not the most organized bunch. It definitely took a few tries to figure this out!

I’m excited to officially announce the newest full time member of our team, associate planner Diana Chouinard! Most of our 2010 and 2011 clients already know Diana– she’s been working at Jubilee Events since October of 2009 as my right hand (w0)man, assistant, and now, associate planner. She and I have had the opportunity to travel all of the world together and she has assisted me on nearly all of our amazing weddings and events. To know Diana is to know that she loves three things: desserts (#1), Derek Jeter (#2) and the Spice Girls (huh? well, I love her anyway!). She is overly energetic, extremely passionate about what she does, incredible smart, talented, and helpful. Sometimes I wonder how we existed without her! I have learned so much from her this past year and she continues to inspire me– and everyone that surrounds her!

Diana is meeting with clients for 2010 and 2011 events, working both Month of Coordination and enhanced services. You’ll be hearing a lot more from her on here as she blogs about her own events, thoughts, and inspiration! I’m really excited to announce that we are moving our studio from Danbury to Cheshire– and will set up our new office and showroom at the Watch Factory Shoppes! We’re on modified hours next week as we vacation for our first year anniversary (!) and also prepare our new space to be moved into. Our roomies Raw Photo Design and Vantage Point Films are staying in the Danbury office as we branch out on our own. I can’t wait to show you all our new digs! What an exciting time.

I am so excited to be partnering up with my friend and colleague, Carla Ten Eyck to put together an intimate and intensive workshop dedicated to creativity and photography in the wedding industry. I’m really excited about our recent feature in BRIDES Connecticut and all 16 regional BRIDES magazines (Atlanta, Northern and Southern California, Washington D.C., Chicago, Houston, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, and Southern Jersey). The first feature is an interview and sneak peak into my own wedding, which you can read about in any BRIDES regional magazine.

The second feature is Marie Antoinette inspired photoshoot we did back in September, which has been featured in the newest issue of BRIDES Connecticut (Spring / Summer 2010), along with Carla Ten Eyck, The White Dress by the Shore, BLUSH Floral Studio, Dana Bartone, Flower Upon Flour and Jen’s Closet. Over the past 5 months I’ve had the opportunity to work with talented and incredible people. Since we can’t show you the images from our super top secret projects, I wanted to show you some behind-the-scenes images and talk about what we’ve been working on.

This past December we had the opportunity to shoot at an amazing location in the northern hills of Connecticut, The Mayflower Inn and Spa. The setting really inspired so many details of our shoot. In every story we’ve set out to create, the vendors come together and collaborate on almost each aspect. It is truly a team effort – I’m happy to say – with each mind bringing unique and amazing ideas to the table. I have to admit not only am I SO lucky to work with these folks but I have THE BEST time doing it!! On this recent winter inspired shoot, we collaborated with Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore, Carla Ten Eyck, Tony of Datura, Dana Bartone, Corine Dell’Orso of Lovely Lollies and the ladies behind Posh Paperie from San Diego.

After several weeks of planning, our day always starts out with the arrival and load-in of our vendors. Our models arrive for hair and makeup, done by the talented stylists at Dana Bartone. Today, Miss Catie Bane waved her magic wand and created a stunning look for our bride-to-be!

Meanwhile, Tony and I are creating details for the shoot with the help of my staff. On this shoot we helped create three tablescapes and a confections table. It was a great opportunity for the new members of Jubilee Events (Ashley, Amanda and Diana) to get their feet wet in the creative process! We had a lot of beautiful pieces for our table and created several different looks at each tablescape. The details from the ladies at Posh Paperie looked amazing — from the escort cards, place cards, banner, pinwheels and pennant flags. We also styled up some incredible sweets created by Corine Dell’Orso of Lovely Lollies. Setting up all these details and tablescapes takes us several hours… we never have any down time!

The floral designer for our shoot was Tony of Datura – A Modern Garden. Tony is truly an artist and created almost all of our floral details right there. He is such a great person to collaborate with. He created a bunch of unique bouquets for our shoot using all different types of textures. He also created all the centerpieces and floral looks on the tables!! We had a lot of birch, some metal, and a variety of gorgeous flowers!!! We set out with a concept for our shoot and have definite ideas in place– but often create a lot of things on the spot that we didn’t intend or think of. Tony might be the best person I know at doing that! He’s so talented and creative.

Beth Chapman and Kelley of White Dress by the Shore always style our models. Beth brings a truck load of fashions and accessories and is constantly adjusting a necklace, bolero or fixing a wayward strand of hair. She also gets stuck holding all the accessories in the bitter cold!! Our shoots wouldn’t be anything with out these two–that’s for sure. They are fully responsible for making our models look incredible!!! I love to sit back and watch Carla shoot Beth looks– Beth, Kelley and I always get giddy at how gorgeous everything is!!

Once a shot is set up that’s where Carla Ten Eyck comes in. Seriously– without this girl, these shoots wouldn’t even be possible, and we wouldn’t have ANY fun. Once we get a shot ready Carla jumps in to shoot, direct, and make things happen. She’s the best at what she does! She also keeps us all laughing, excited, on our toes, and enjoying the hard work we’re putting into each project. She has some of the best ideas and is so fun to collaborate with.

In the end, we all work together on many details and are apart of each shot being set up. You can see us all pitching in to achieve the final outcome… which is always incredible!!

I hope to have more behind the scenes from some previous shoots we’ve done and most definitely New Orleans when we get back!!

We opened our joint space back in early 2009 and have been eager to host a party in our new digs. As the end of the year neared, we really wanted to get together with our industry friends and celebrate an incredible wedding season. During our brainstorming session the studio decided to have a fun, RELAXED, unpretentious holiday party that celebrated crazy tinsel, garland, and fiber-optics. If Eric had his way, we would have also had blown up snow globes in Tom’s office and an animatronic nativity.

Forging ahead with our party theme, we created an invitation to surely set to tone. A raw photo design exclusive:

Our crazy event was catered and hosted by Jordan Caterers, who provided an incredible spread of absolute deliciousness for our guests to munch and feast upon! Jeff and Debbie of Jordans were totally game for our ideas and created a quirky yet delicious menu of mini fondues with yummy goat cheese, coney island pigs in blankets (the crowd favorite), ants on a log, and baby twice-stuffed potatoes with truffle oil. We also had delicious hummus and cheese drizzled with honey and candied nuts. For dessert there was munching of white chocolate covered popcorn and individually wrapped red velvet whoopie pies. Yes, whoopie pies. Yum!

Our very good friend and colleague, Tony from Datura – A Modern Garden created a floral sculpture masterpiece straight out of whoville.

And the super awesome Meredith of Pygmalion Design created this gorgeous ranunculous arrangement that classed up the joint!

No event hosted by raw photo design would be complete without their famous photobooth. I’m certain we didn’t disappoint!!!

It was such an honor to be able to host this party in our space. Thanks to all who could come! BIG thanks to Jordan Caterers for making our event taste delicious. Also, thanks to the Jubilee Events interns and staff for their expertise in tacky lighting displays. See you in the new year!

Martha Stewart Weddings celebrated their 15th Anniversary with a really spectacular party at the Plaza in New York. Carla Ten Eyck and I attended the event and had a blast! There were so many incredible and talented people in attendance and it was such a pleasure to meet all of them. Clearly, Martha Stewart Weddings is THE magazine in the industry — by far the most amazing — and we wish them 15 more years of success!

I was super pumped to find out that one of our weddings from 2009 was featured in Get Married’s premiere October issue! You remember the preppy and chic wedding at the Saugatuck Rowing Club that we designed for Kim and Matt back in May? Well their amazing tablescape and details made it into the glossy! You can actually read the entire first issue online too. We have received several copies in the mail and like what we see! It’s so hard to pull together a magazine in today’s industry so many kudos and congrats to our new friends over at getmarried.com. To view the first portion of this shoot check out my previous post, here! I collaborated with Elisabeth of BLUSH floral design and Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore on the color story of teal and pink. All the hair and makeup was done by the talented and super amazing Dana Bartone & Co., who are responsible for making almost ALL of my brides gorgeous on their wedding day (me included)!! My studio roomie Thomas Morlock of Vantage Point Films also shot the entire event from his viewfinder. He ate all the cake AND drank all the champagne!!!

Soo… is Signature Event Rentals not awesome? Their furniture totally made our tablescape go from cool to incredible. I loved their white dining table and we decided to use their Alice Pop hot pink chairs, mixed in with the white padded, clear backed. Elisabeth created a series of beautiful and simple pink arrangements down the center of the table in vintage milk glass containers… gorgeous!!

Party Rentals Ltd in Greenwich and New Preston supplied the hot pink glass chargers and some of the dinner plates. We also used their gold rimmed wine / champagne glasses and gold flatware. All the other pieces are vintage china (lots of limoges), including the tea cups and saucers, white/gold dinner plates and the aqua soup bowls are all courtesy of my friend and etsy shop owner, Jen. Check out her store, Jen’s Closet!

I added little bottles of Moet at each place setting and floated white raspberries in each champagne glass (they were yum!). The beautiful art deco napkins came from this fabulous antique store in Seymour, Connecticut called Yesterday’s Luxuries. They are made of linen and are so delicate and beautiful! Definitely a set of keepers.

I collaborated with Elisabeth of BLUSH floral design and Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore to come up with a unique and fun color story in teals and pinks. All the hair and makeup was done by the talented and super amazing Dana Bartone & Co., who are responsible for making almost ALL of my brides gorgeous on their wedding day (me included)!! My studio roomie Thomas Morlock of Vantage Point Films also shot the entire event from his viewfinder. Plus, he drank all the champagne.

For those of you who don’t know, Carla runs an amazing workshop for photographers once a month where she spends an entire day shooting, educating, and discussing her artform. I’ve attended two Ten Eyck Tuesdays and Carla is amazing!! If you are a photographer in the area (you should travel here if your not!) I highly recommend Carla’s workshop. They are so thorough and detailed. Plus, Carla puts the sass in sass-a-frass.

The location for the shoot was really awesome. The building is an interior designer’s dream, full of lots of shops from furniture to lighting. We took over a blank industrial space with nothing except a few sheets of unused drywall laid up against the wall.

This gorgeousness is all courtesy of Carla and Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore who dressed and styled our gorgeous models. Don’t you just LOVE this short wedding gown and feather hair fascinator? It was so delicate and pretty in person! I could have played dress up for hours with all the amazing accessories Beth brought.

That gorgeous, vintage pink bouquet is by the equally talented Elisabeth of BLUSH floral design. I love Dan’s peacock feathered boutonniere. Can you see the peacock feathers tucked into Mandie’s bouquet? Check the neck collage of images!

Pretty gorgeous, right? The furniture is from my FAVORITE rental company, Signature Event Rentals, who are responsible for most of the awesomeness you see. That gorgeous white couch? The clear-backed and hot pink dining chairs?! The leather tufted wall panels?!?! The WHITE dinning table?!?!?! Yeah, they pretty much rule. They’re the best, hands down, and we LOVED having their furniture at the shoot!

Elisabeth created a bed of tightly arranged hot pink carnations for our escort cards, which were pennant flags that I made and hand wrote in gold ink. Antonia from Flower upon Flour blew us away with her tasty little gold petit fours with the hot pink fleur de lis… but the pièce de résistance was definitely her INSANE cake!!

Antonia and I had discussed the color story and inspiration behind the shoot… and when she showed up with this…. we were like… seriously?! A teal cake with a gold birdcage on top and hot pink feathers?!

Yesterday, Fox61 news at 10 stopped by our studio to interview myself, Elisabeth of Blush Floral Studio, Eric Langlois of raw photo design, and Tom Morlock of Paradigm Digital Video, and get our opinions on how couples could save money while planning their wedding. I advised couples look into off season dates and nights other than Saturday — where the cost differential can be pretty considerable! Here are some other tips we talked about that didn’t make it on air:

Cut your guest list: About 40% of a couples budget is spent on the reception (food, drink, and the site itself). You can significantly impact your budget by cutting the guest list down!

Prioritize. Spend / splurge on what is important to YOU and seek out creative and cost effective ideas for aspects that are not as important. Every couple is different, and therefore, every couple will have different priorities. Once you identify areas that you want to invest in — do so!

Some other advice: If you have a hobby, skill, or something you are love to do — I definitely recommend infusing that into your wedding! But I caution couples: don’t bite off more than you can chew. It may seem like no big deal to do something yourself — and with enough time and preparation no task is insurmountable. Be sure to schedule enough time to get a project done and have a back up plan in case something doesn’t go as planned. Always consider, as well, if doing something yourself is actually saving you money.

Rob and I go way back — like, MIDDLE SCHOOL, and it is always so insane to me that so many years later we are both in the wedding industry. In a word, it is fabulous! BRIDES always puts together such a wonderful regional magazine, full of amazing content related to Connecticut. Among all the crazy eye candy is an interview we did on our TOP PICKS for a Connecticut bride’s reception. Be sure to pick up your copy to see what they are!

My favorite feature in this issue has to be the Style Inspirations Shopping Trip. BRIDES went to several of our favorite stores — Anthropologie, Crate & Barrel, and West Elm just to name a few. They took each of these stores unique styles and parlayed it into a wedding day design. I love it because it is an extension of what I’ve always said — your wedding should be a reflection of your personal style. You can find inspiration not just in wedding magazines, but in every day life! Look toward your own personal style and let your unique style sense shine.

The holidays are my favorite time of year. I love decorating, gift giving, wrapping, eating, drinking, and all the merriment of the season. We’re going to take a slight break from wedding inspiration and talk about holiday party planning for the entire month of December. I want to motivate you all to celebrate the holidays with more cheer and vodka than years past! With all the crazy happenings in the world, it is all the more important to spend quality time with family and friends. If you’ve never hosted a holiday party than this year is the year to start! If you begin your preparations early, you can save a few dollars on food and décor. I would love to feature photographs and details of your holiday party! I’ll be sharing my own with you all.

I’ll admit it — prior to signing up for my twitter account I thought “twittering” was a waste of time. What’s the point, I thought? Well, I still don’t know the full answer to that question. What I DO know is twitter keeps me fully locked into my family, friends, and colleagues whereabouts and general insane 140-words-or-less blabbering. Without twitter, how would I know about How to Kill Your Blog or that BridesDesign’s morning was off to a great start? Seriously though, twitter is a great tool to stay connected with people and network with other people in your industry. I’m a twitter convert! And now that I figured out how to use twitter on my Blackberry (no laughing, please), I am twittering EVERYWHERE!

We had such a great time lugging around our 50 pound bag of marketing material (seriously, my shoulders and neck hurt for days!) and we got to interface with a lot of talented and unique event vendors. This is one of the things I love best about my job: staying on top of trends, meeting new people, and bringing that information straight to my couples.

Simone and I took a ton of pictures — from lounge furniture to floral trends, tablescapes, and yummy food! I can’t wait to share it all with you and highlight some incredible vendors we met along the way. I’m really excited to announce that Jubilee Events is holding our first contest where a deserving Connecticut couple will win a Full Planning Package! Lately I have been hearing many touching stories of couples meeting some resistance and unique challenges as they plan their wedding. During a meeting last week with Lori of Florein Southbury we talked about life and business and the topic of paying it forward came up. I’ve always been a strong believer and try to live by the philosophy as much as possible. After our meeting I was so inspired, and felt compelled to help a deserving couple and their family plan their wedding.

To enter the contest is simple:

In one thousand (1,000) words or less, please tell me (via email: candice@eventjubilee.com) about your unique love story and the challenges that you have met while planning your wedding. Due to the nature of availability I ask all participates to email me prior to submitting your essay with your wedding date. I want to make sure I am available! Along with your essay, please also be sure to include:

– Both of your full names
– Your evening contact information
– Your current location
– A picture of you both

The contest is open from Monday, October 26, 2008 – Monday, November 24, 2008 and the winner will be announced December 1st. Your wedding must be in 2009 or 2010 and in Connecticut. There are no other stipulations to our contest! The winner will be chosen by myself and my staff and will receive Jubilee’s Full Planning Package with a few generous extras.

Our Full Planning package is full of unique services such as vendor recommendations / selections, design and detail development, budget assistance, etiquette advice, menu / wine selections, week of coordination and SO much more. Four of my guiltiest pleasures:
1. Coffee.
2. 90210 2.0. I have to admit, it is kind of good!
3. Clothes. Specifically, J. Crew clothes. I stalk their website daily to pounce on sales at a moment’s notice!
4. Designer purses. I have to admit, I collect them and have a very twisted love affair with anything leather, labeled, and expensive… I’m trying to break my habit… for the betterment of my retirement!

Four random facts about me:
1. I haven’t eaten a piece of bread, starch or sugar in FIVE years. Let me tell you, it has become more torturous every single day!
2. I collect art books. I have stacks and stacks of them. I love art history!
3. My favorite band is the Grateful Dead. Now those who’ve known me for a long time won’t find this surprising, but I think a lot of people who don’t know me from my younger days do!
4. I love stationary. I mean, I LOVE stationary. I don’t know what it is about fabulous cards, letterpress, couture graphics and pretty inks but I just love ‘em!

I just wanted to let our all brides and readers know that Michael and I are away for the soggy weekend in Newport. We are staying in some luxury diggs at the Vanderbilt Hall Hotel which, I have to say, is absolutely exquisite! Very few hotels have oodles and oodles of art history books lining the shelves of their lobby. I am in complete heaven! Tonight we are going out for a low key dinner, and tomorrow we’ll hopefully be eating at the West Deck where Michael’s childhood friend is the executive chef.

Its so important to immerse yourself in an area that is conducive of work. You often find that your best work is done when your surroundings are clean and devoid of clutter. Often, we don’t have enough time to purge our offices of unnecessary clutter and items. But it is so important to make time, because the result can lead to rejuvenation of your enthusiasm and creativity.

I decided that our office needed an intervention! The desk I am using isn’t roomy enough and doesn’t offer the storage I need. My bookshelves are lined with hundreds of my favorite novels, magazines, and inspiration books. There were dust collectors, do-dads, and other various items that legitimately serve no purpose. And so, the great purge began!

pbdesk.jpgWith a little new paint, some rearranging of furniture and donation of old furniture to The Salvation Army, I was able to give my office a new look. I also bought into the Bedford Collection at Pottery Barn for my new work area. I’ve been courting this desk set for about two years and I’m thrilled to purchase it. I’m also looking into purchasing a ClosetMaid system from HomeDepot to better organize and maximize our closet space. Over the years, the tendency to accumulate paperwork is expected. I want to make sure that I have the proper storage to keep my paperwork filed and out of sight! I also plan to visit IKEA soon to purchase some new curtians, artwork, and office storage supplies.
