A Jubilee Event: Sandy & Mike’s Vineyard Wedding at Jonathan Edwards Winery in Stonington, Connecticut

Sandy and Mike’s wedding was a day that reminded me why I love my job so much; from seeing their vision come to life, to spending time with their adorable and funny families, I got to know the two of them like friends over the course of a year and consider them to be just that. It was a beautiful September evening at one of our favorite vineyards in Connecticut with one of the most incredible sunsets of the year. Surrounded by 80 of their closest family and friends, they exchanged vows amongst the vines and danced the night away under a romantically lit Sperry Tent. Sandy has undeniable style, and when she came to me with her inspiration, I instantly fell in love with her color palette. It was unique, different, fun, and colorful– and Elisabeth at BLUSH Floral Design really embraced all these elements. I have so many favorite details from this wedding but my absolute favorite was the quote on the program cover, calligraphed by our friend Elizabeth Porcher Jones, that read “It takes two when it use to take one.”

Sandy wrote about her wedding for Style Me Pretty and I wanted to share her perspective of the day…

From the bride...We had a small wedding of less than 100 people, as we really wanted an intimate evening with our closest friends and family. We chose Jonathan Edwards Winery because we are big wine people, and we thought the place had a great mix of Connecticut charm and outdoor elegance. September is the perfect time to get married there, as the grapes are almost fully grown, and the weather is mild. Since many of Mike’s friends and family members live on the West Coast, it was exciting to show them the beauty of New England. The natural, understated beauty of the venue also allowed me to design my own space from the ground up, not only for the ceremony, but inside the gorgeous Sperry tent for the reception. I worked closely with Candice of Jubilee Events to make my vision come to life and loved every minute of it. I didn’t want to go with the typical dark, fall color palette, and chose to mix pops of colors and textures. I have a real love for beautiful typography and had calligraphy strewn throughout the wedding. My Amsale “Dahlia” gown served as a great inspiration for everything, from the floral design and the wedding cake to the welcome bags I designed. We included a lot of thoughtful details that had special meaning for us as a couple. We had succulents throughout the space as a nod to Mike’s home state of Arizona and a tequila signature cocktail to represent our shared love for Mexico (I studied abroad there, and Mike lived there for five years). Robert & Kathleen Photographers captured our day so beautifully, and thanks to them and the rest of our wonderful vendors, we had a lovely wedding day!

And now, the beautiful images by one of our favorite photographers, Robert and Kathleen.. and the wonderful video by our friend Mike Cyr of Buzz Media Company.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to all our amazing creatives that made this wedding one of the most beautiful events we’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of. I can’t stretch my arms wide enough to thank Sandy and Mike for letting me be apart of their personal history. Congratulations guys– love ya! XOXO

Nautical Preppy Wedding Photoshoot in Essex, Connecticut for The Connecticut Bride

This past fall we had the fun opportunity to co-create and design a fun, summer editorial shoot for The Connecticut Bride Magazine. Having just come off our fashion obsession of nautical glam, we worked with our creative counterparts to design this fun, preppy, and dressed up version of nautical on the Connecticut shoreline! We worked in your traditional seaside color story– blues, reds and yellows– with a bit of sparkle, lots of stripes and a little kate spade. What I’m also excited about is half my summer accessories got incorporated into this gorgeousness! A huge thank you to our talented team who made the day so fun: Carla Ten Eyck, Beth Chapman, Datura: A Modern Garden, Dana Bartone & Company, A Little Imagination Cakes, Coral Pheasant Stationery + Design, and a HUGE thank you to our dear friend Rachel Edwards at Dreamscapes Design Group for not being just lovely and wonderful, but such a gracious hostess for the day!! An additional thank you to Alison Fischer of The Plumed Serpent in Westport for also participating in this shoot and lending her gorgeous gowns!

I just love this first look– colored shoes, colored jewels, those lockets (! which we all immediately purchased on the spot from Aquinnah and all now proudly own, and hope to not wear all at the same time, accidentally), striped puffy sleeved top, sparkly anchor bag…. love it all! The paper suite that Nichole from Coral Pheasant put together was spectacular. Sign. Me. Up. It was so well executed with so many fun little surprises– which I feel like is her signature.

A Classic Wedding Inspired by Jackie & JFK at The Bee and Thistle Inn and Spa, featured in Gala Weddings Magazine!

In honor of tonight’s soiree at The Bee and Thistle Inn and Spa to celebrate the newest issue of Gala Weddings Magazine, I wanted to share with you all images from the gorgeous photoshoot we collaborated on with our amazing creative team! All of us share a special love for the undeniably beautiful Jackie Kennedy Onassis and have been dying to work together on designing a photoshoot inspired by her classic and effortless style. At Anne Barge‘s market run way show, Beth Chapman and I saw “Jackie” walk down the runway and we instantly knew we had to plan a shoot around this incredible gown that Anne designed, inspired by Jackie’s original dress. It just so happens that our shoot took place on the anniversary of Jackie and John’s magical Newport wedding (not even intended!). We worked with our team to design a classic, yet modernized wedding in shades of hydrangea blue with soft and bright yellows.

Some of my favorite details from this shoot include the customized menus made out of gorgeous satin ribbon with gold foil engraving, the ghost chairs we designed with Datura: A Modern Garden that included inset calligraphy as a place card and boxwood trimming on the chair backs, the classic half wedge of pineapple that guests truly dinned at at Jackie and John’s wedding, the customized blue taffeta skirt and white collared shirt by Coren Moore (Beth’s vision that was designed especially for our shoot), the classic hair and makeup by Dana Bartone, and of course, my own personal Louie Vuitton suitcase as part of the going away look!

A Jubilee Event: Teddy’s Modern Bar Mitzvah

I’m so excited to share with you today the fun and colorful Bar Mitzvah of Teddy! We had the pleasure of working with Teddy and his all-star planning team at Kathy O’Boyle Events to design a fun party to celebrate with his family and friends. We started off with a nautical and masculine seersucker pattern and incorporated pops of orange, navy, and green to create his cool party. Ryan Designs not only made custom orange chandeliers for our ceremony tent, draped in clean white fabric.. but they also created custom seersucker fabric-wrapped lamp shade pendants for our dining tent which hung above our tables. We used a seersucker linen on the long and round tables, accentuated by brightly colored floral from BLUSH Floral Design which included unique textures like grass, ranunculous, and orange protea. The fun paper, designed by Coral Pheasant, included these elements along with a custom monogram for the navy hoodies that Teddy gave away to his guests. I absolutely love the design that Nichole came up with, which was part colleagette and included some of Teddy’s favorite activities: lacrosse, boating and music. Chris at Culinary Concerts took our color story and incorporated it into the food, serving delicious orange drinks on the table with family style bits when guests first sat down.

During dinner, we transformed the ceremony tent into an fun lounge, complete with a white dance floor, semi-circular white resin smoothie bar, and sleek white couches with orange ottomans from Taylor Creative Inc. Culinary Concerts also designed a dessert bar round our style, creating white and blue seersucker cookies with shots of milk and Teddy’s favorite brownies. A huge thank you to Tricia Bohan photography for these images!

Thanks to Teddy and his wonderful family for the creative outlet– and congratulations!!
