We are so fortunate to have been asked again to produce an editorial shoot for The Connecticut Bride Magazine. Inspired by the city of Hartford, we shot in several iconic locations: The Old State House, Gershon Fox Room, Society Room, City Hall, Mark Twain House, and Elizabeth Park. Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the shore styled six amazing looks featuring the world renowned and Connecticut based designer, Modern Trousseau. Tony from Datura: A Modern Garden created gorgeous bouquets inspired by each look, and Dana Bartone & Co. styled all the fabulous hair and makeup. We can’t wait to show you all the amazing images captured by Carla Ten Eyck. Be sure to pick up a copy of The Connecticut Bride on newsstands next week. As Beth wrote (and we agree), “I felt it imperative that Kate don some sort of sleeve for her Westminster Abbey ceremony. The venue is a 1,000 year old church, where kings and queens are crowned. In respect of tradition, I feel that the coverage is necessary. My hope is that the silhouette that she selects- albeit traditional- will have some shape in the skirt to show off her fabulous figure!” I do agree with Beth that her dress ought to have sleeves– whether they are part of a short jacket she wears and can later remove– or constructed into the gown.

And while the dress that she wears to Westminster Abbey will most certainly have a conservative feel, we can only imagine what she’ll change into for that evening’s intimate dinner party! This is where we expect Kate’s true style to shine, and perhaps, she’ll dawn something more slim and formfitting.

Jill contacted us a few months out from her wedding date to finalize all those important last minute details. She had assembled a wonderful team of local vendors: The Boulders Inn in New Preston, which is a stunning private hotel and restaurant overlooking sweeping views of Litchfield County and Lake Waramaug. Guests dinned on a multi-course dinner of delicious food and wine, complete with vodka shots as a nod to the bride and groom’s heritage. Their floral design of classic white and blue by talented and esteemed local floral designer, Loretta Stagen. Jill carried a bouquet featuring Lily of the Valley and white sweet peas with natural stems wrapped in lace matching her gown and bolero from The White Dress by the Shore. I absolutely loved her gown– simple, lace, with beautiful buttons up the back and a huge couture bow.

The bridesmaids (her sister and best friend) wore custom navy gowns by a local designer. The groom and his groomsmen (both his brothers) wore classic black tuxedos with ascots. The bride and grooms’ niece and nephew served as the perfect pair of ring bearer and flower girl (even though she had a hard time making it down the aisle– she couldn’t have looked any cuter!). After the ceremony, the bride and groom received all their guests outside the church.

Guests arrived at The Boulders with cocktails and a scrumpteous spread of afternoon hors d’oeurves. The Sam Vinci Band played great crooner music through out the day and into the evening. Jill and Joseph were introduced to their favorite Beatles song, and danced their first dance to “Secret of Life” by James Taylor. They even introduced their pup Henry, who was the most well behaved Beagle I ever met. He even had a pretty collar of flowers made for him– especially for the day!

Escort cards were placed on the elegant buffet table in the fireplace room on a beautiful silver tray. Dinner was composed of the most delicious food– course after course of beautiful and delightful dishes. Shrimp cocktail, Vischyssoises Soup, Filet & Lobster Tail, and my favorite– buttery bibb salad. The dinning room at The Boulders was decorated beautifully with clean white linens on a combination of round and long family style tables. Loretta Stagen created centerpieces with soft hues of white and blue, with white Majolica roses, scented white freesia and white phlox, light pink sweet peas and sky blue delphinium in square containers. There was plenty of candlelight, and clinking silver-rimmed glasses. Each place setting had a beautiful hem-stitched linen napkin and menu card by DK Schulman Design of New Preston– who created all the wedding stationery for the day.

At the end of dinner, they cut their magnificent cake by Ana Parzych Custom Cakes– a beautiful white, three tiered custom masterpiece with a clutch of lillies of the valley and satin bow, all inspired by the bride’s gown and bouquet. Ana also created a fun Red Sox themed grooms cake for Joseph– and miniature “guys” cakes in white boxes for all the male guests to take home (ladies took home chocolate engagement rings– so cute!). The night ended with dancing on the outside patio, overlooking the lake, to solo guitarist Ian Campbell. All the images below are by their talented photographer, Sarah Wight.

Thank you so much to SaraD for all these lovely images! An enormous thank you to Jill and Joseph for including myself and my team in their beautiful, emotional, and memorable day. Our team started with our talented photography crew: Carla Ten Eyck, Katie Slater, Sara-Code Kroll, and Carla’s studio manager Dodie of Carla Ten Eyck Photography. The gorgeous fashions, accessories and styling of our models was the vision of Beth Chapman from The White Dress by the Shore. Tony from Datura: A Modern Garden designed all the gorgeous floral and collaborated with me on our epic tablescape! Jennie Fresa and Nedelyn Perry of Jennie Fresa Beauty Library composed our beauty team and created gorgeous looks for our models. To top it off– our friend Tom from Vantage Point Films was there to document the entire trip. You can see his incredible video here! Diana and I round out the rest of the team, accompanied by my friend and colleague Samantha Darr of soirrebliss! in Houston, Texas who came down to hang out and help!

Our morning started off at the historic Cornstalk Hotel, which, I might add, might be the prettiest Southern inn in the French Quarter. The Cornstalk is most famous for it’s iron cornstalk fence and famous guests (one of which is Harriet Beecher Stowe who was inspired to write “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” after visiting the inn).The Inn sits on Royal Street, which we’d later shut down and stage our entire shoot in it’s heart.

This shoot was inspired by fashion, and included a custom Modern Tousseau created just for our shoot. The bride wore a vintage rose applique by Karen Lindner Designs in her hair and jewels by Haute Bride. The classic black tuxedo was provided by Perlis, and the groom wore a sweet little peony boutionerre. The bridesmaid gowns are part of the  Jenny Yoo collection and were in a shade of grey, accentuated by pink fabric flower sash by Twigs & Honey and jewels by Haute Bride. The hot pink shoes are designed by Poetic License. The pink tulip and pink peony bouquet with tulle hem were created by Datura: A Modern Garden. The pink paper “just married” banner was designed and hand made by posh paperie. Bella Umbrella provided the gorgeous white and pink ruffled vintage umbrellas!

Yippie! Today is the long awaited wedding of the most beautiful and sweet bride ever, Jennifer, and her equally genuine and wonderful fiancee, Clark. As you can tell, I couldn’t be more excited to see the wedding of these two come to fruition. They are such a wonderful couple and we have planned a gorgeous pink and purple affair with vintage touches at my favorite spot, The New Haven Lawn Club. Their ceremony will be right in their very own neighborhood at Assumption Church in Westport. We’re working with an incredible team of talent– Robert and Kathleen Photographers, BLUSH floral studio, Rob Alberti Lighting, Bales & Giltin Band, and Sweet Cakes out of Fairfield. Jennifer even has a custom gown by Modern Trousseau with jewels and accessories from The White Dress by the Shore!  We can’t wait to get the festivities and merriment started. Beth and I worked on coming up with a design board for our shoot, as we usually do, and were really inspired by a photograph that Robert and Kathleen took on their first trip to Paris. We wanted to do a monochromatic, black and white shoot, where the images felt like classic black and whites even in color. I really think we achieved that! Beth had a vision for fashion that was heavily influenced by runway, vogue, and of COURSE Sex in the City!

Throughout the process we worked with Kim Peytet of Parisian Events, who helped us source all the wonderful Parisian venders that collaborated with us! Kim introduced us to so many wonderful people who I will introduce YOU to throughout this post!
During our short (count 4 days!!!!) time in Paris, we did two days full of shooting and one day full of scouting. The other day was the day we all arrived—so we really hit the ground running! This shoot was recently featured on Style Me Pretty, and was part of Robert and Kathleen’s brilliant photography seminar – Taking Off.

Kim secured a beautiful apartment for us to work from and for Robert and Kathleen to teach. It had a roof top deck where we put together an amazing tablescape with the help of several talented people! The morning began with hair and makeup… our model, Segolene, is positively beautiful. Hair and makeup was covered by our new friend, Masafumi Matsuda, who also doubled as our Japanese / Parisian tour guide on day two. =) If you are looking for beauty while in Paris– look no further!! Masafumi is absolutely amazing!!! Beth styled Segolene in the most stunning Modern Trousseau gown before it hit the runway at bridal market and jewelry by The White Dress by the Shore in layers, and layers of decedent pearls and diamonds!

The shoes, by Vouelle, were beautiful white pointed toe heels with a little ruffle of fabric at the toe. Our friend Elizabeth Porcher Jones, lover of all things Paris as well, did the stunning calligraphy on this invitation.

Our male model, Jeremy, wore a classic black tuxedo by the generous folks at Tuxego in New York. Catherine Muller is the talented floral designer and created the ivy and white floral boutonniere. Our talented friends at Posh Paperie in San Diego mailed their amazing program, with ivory, silver, and red embellishments all the way to Paris for our shoot!

We styled the gorgeous tablescape with white linen from our friends at Rentals Unlimited. The best part? They happened to be in Paris (randomly) while we were there, and stopped in to say hello! It truly was an East Coast destination. They also provided the lace-styled chair caps and white napkins. Catherine Muller put together a beautiful white and green arrangement in an antiqued pedestal. The arrangement was very gardeny, filled loosely with calla lilies and other beautiful white flowers. She did an amazing job! The paper flower garland down the center of the table is absolutely brilliant—you need to run out NOW and get some! Originally I had envisioned the garland hanging over the table, but it was really windy on that roof top and there was NO way that was going to work. So we improvised. Thanks to kate’s paperie, the maker of that fabulous garland!

Is that cake not gorgeous? The Sugar Plum Cake Shop in Paris created a white and ecru cake with macaron and ribbon embellishments. Perfection!!! Posh Paperie created the perfect paper ribbon cake topper. The cake pedestal? Lugged in my suitcase (among MANY, MANY things). I’m said to say it didn’t make it home, but it was certainly a worthy sacrifice!!

Segolene wore a beautiful tulle necklace with broach by Miss Ruby Sue (broach by The White Dress by the Shore).

More beautiful table details! We love the place card holders, silverware and knife rests (only in France!), and glass chargers by Noel-Collet. More of Catherine Muller’s beautiful centerpiece and kate’s paperie’s tissue flowers. I love hanging things off the backs of chairs, so you know we had to do something!

Beth had an amazing pose that she wanted to create with Segolene… and viola… magic!!! Her bouquet was similar in style to our centerpiece and we wrapped it in the most BEAUTIFUL lace paper from kate’s paperie. I am still drooling over it!!

For most of the day it rained– so we stayed comfortable inside until the weather broke. We made a mad dash over to the Eiffel Tower for the second half of our shoot!

Big thank you to Robert and Kathleen for coming up with the idea and asking us to be along for the ride! We would have never had the opportunity to do something so amazing if it were not for you. Another big thank you to Beth Chapman, who is always amazing to collaborate with. Your sense of style and fashion really made this photo shoot what it was– spectacular. And big thank you to Marshie, our fashion and craft guru who had so many wonderful ideas!!!! Your energy, enthusiasm and company truly made our trip. We are so grateful to Kim of Parisian Events for introducing us to the wonderful and generous Parisian vendors who were so EASY to work with and fun! Your help was instrumental in the amazing success of our shoot and we are so appreciative!

I was so excited to work with the wonderful girls over at The White Dress by the Shore on my wedding gown and accessories (I did a feature on the blog about them last September). For my first dress fitting I brought along my friend Robin Dini to check out my dress. She surprised me with her camera and took some beautiful shots of Beth, Josie and I talking about different looks and the couture element of ruffled tulle I added to my Modern Trousseau gown. Am I super lucky or what?

Josie did all the alterations to my gown and has come out with her own line of fine European lingerie, sold exclusively at White Dress. Its called Beneath the Gown, and her creations are magnificent!!

Before we go any further — HUGE thanks to Eric Langlois of raw photo design who was totally game for breathing in asbestosis. Also, Tom from Paradigm DV collaborated with us and filmed the entire thing. I saw some raw footage of it and let me tell you, it is SICK (I can’t WAIT to share it!). The dress I wore was “Aimee” from Modern Trousseau via The White Dress by the Shore. The dress was so gorgeous and comfortable– it fit like a glove! My good friend Elisabeth from Blush Floral Design designed the most gorgeous bouquet, inspired by the vintage location we were shooting at. My favorite part? The little bits of tulle she incorporated through out the. My hair and makeup was done by Catie Bane of Dana Bartone & Co. She took my idea of Dita Von Teese and Katherine Heigl and merged them together. Don’t you think she did a super fabulous job? The birdcage veil and fascinator was from Brenda’s Brdal Veils via etsy.com.

A few years ago I came across this abandoned girls college in New York and knew that someday I would have to go back and investigate it myself. Eric and I were tossing around some cool locations to shoot at and then the light bulb went off in my brain! Armed with flash lights and bail money the three of us created a way inside and investigated the top three floors. The site was as scary and desolate as it looks above. The inside was VERY decayed and heavily vandalized; overall, it was pretty dangerous — a whole section of the building had caved in from three floors down (Watch where you step was really an understatement). Having been abandoned for over thirty years the floors were very soft, the paint chipped, weeds and vines had made their way inside. It was absolutely awesome and lived up to every expectation I had.

Eric had some killer ideas and his guidance was amazing. He has such a keen ability to make you feel COMFORTABLE in front of the camera. I was so nervous I was going to give bad Zoolander face — but he steered me in the right direction!!

Beth and her staff recently launched Chic by the Shore, which is located right behind White Dresses’ main building. It is an interesting concept that is super beneficial to brides. It’s a fusion of bridesmaid gowns and invitations by Stonington Design+Paperie (which might be one of the only couture invitation designers in the state – but more on Christine and her fabulous creations later! She needs a post all her own!). I love the idea that a bride can have the White Dress by the Shore “experience” not only when buying her gown, but also gowns for her attendants and when designing her invitations. I feel it is important, too, to define the type of experience a bride can expect when visiting White Dress and Chic by the Shore. Beth and her staff are so incredibly attentive and invested in each and every client that they work with. Beth has an extraordinary love for fashion and weddings, and it is so evident in how enthusiastic she is about each and every item that she carries. They develop wonderful relationships with their clients and their families. It is the type of environment where in three years from now, when you attend your best friend or sister’s fitting, they will remember you and every detail of your wedding that you shared.

They also have a wonderful alterations policy which is a bit different from other bridal boutiques in the state and really ends up benefiting the bride. White Dress also uses local seamstresses in Clinton, but has a network of talented seamstresses in other areas of the state for brides who can’t make the travel to their boutique for alterations.

I really encourage all my readers who are searching for their gown to make an appointment at White Dress. I can’t wait for my own appointment to try on gowns and find the one!

There is also a Modern Trousseau Bridal and Mother of the Occasion Trunk Show on September 25th — September 27th. I am so upset I won’t be able to go as I’ll be away for the weekend on vacation.
