Holiday Centerpiece: Carnations

blush1.JPG
blush2.JPG

Elisabeth from BLUSH floral design posted a fabulous purple centerpiece on her blog and I wanted to share. I just love these carnations in varying shades of purple. Believe it or not, carnations in bulk (like these) can look so gorgeous. The key is to use a lot and make your centerpiece very full. I agree with Elisabeth, too, that with these flowers the you can use the container to dictate the style of the arrangement. You can use square chunky vases, tall cylinders, old candy jars or medicine bottles, or mint julep cups. Although, I really love the antiqued vessels she used. And the sequin balls? Gorgeous! They’ll sparkle too in candlelight and are a touch of necessary glamour.

If you’re too busy for arrangements this season, give Elisabeth a call. Blush is offering holiday inspired arrangements at a really fabulous price. Get all the details here!

A Bit of Vintage: Our Save the Dates

It is an exciting weekend for this event planner — our save the dates went into the mail! I wanted to share them with you as they were designed and crafted by yours truly. I went back and forth several times with the idea of creating them myself. I certainly have the means and tools to do so, but as any artist knows, it isn’t easy to take on your own projects. I searched endlessly for an easy way out and couldn’t find anything that I simply had to have, so, it was off to Illustrator to begin designing!

I wanted to tie in our wedding’s color scheme with the save the dates so I went with varying shades of purple, gold, and white. After many designs, Mike and I really loved this one the most. It has a very subtle vintage feel and gives a peak into the romantic vintage-style fete we are planning! So, without further adieu, here are our save the dates! Be sure to click the images for a larger version!

The front of the purple envelope with gold metallic lettering and a Betty Davis stamp.

The interior custom lining which mirrors some of the design on the actual save the date.

The beautiful hand calligraphy envelope seals in shimmery gold metallic card stock. These gorgeous creations were made by the very talented Lisa Ridgely of Pen & Ink Calligraphy out of Westminster, Maryland. I found Lisa through her etsy.com shop and knew that these envelope seals were the one touch of glam our envelopes needed. She was such a doll to work with and I can’t wait to recommend her services to my brides. Thanks Lisa!

Oh, I am so thrilled with how they came out! My most favorite part is the varying font style. I have huge love affair with fonts. Am I crazy?

All the elements together so you can get the full “experience.”

Up close and personal!

I’ve already started receiving phone calls about how much our guests love them which makes me so thrilled. I hope you enjoyed them too!

Inspiration Board: Quintessential Fall in Eggplant, Tenne, and Ripe Pear

First, let me apologize for the long lag in between inspiration boards! I’ve been so busy and this one has been sitting in photoshop for a long time.

quintfallinspiration.jpgI was inspired to do this board by an email I received from Crate & Barrel last month, advertising some of their new fall products! I saw these two images and immediately loved the color combination. I love purple, pumpkin (although this color is officially named “Tenne”) and the color of pear together. It is so fall festive and effortless. I think food provides a lot of color palates that we must consider. I remember watching an episode of Trading Spaces MANY years ago where Genevieve Porter did a room inspired by a cup of miso soup. I always admired and understood her for that, and I try to find inspiration in the same way: everyday life and the unexpected.

This color palate really asked for a country-style wedding. I could see it implemented at Candlelight Farms Inn, Tyrone Farm, The Webb Barn, or Wickham Park. Of course, it would also be gorgeous at a private estate wedding! There are so many fun elements that I wanted to include but I just didn’t have the space. So, here is to what is left of our fall foliage!

Chris Kattan & Sunshine Tutt: Chic and Eco-Friendly

kattan5.jpg

kattantuttcp.jpgChris Kattan and model Sunshine Tutt were married on June 28th at Chateau Du Sureau. The couple added a lot of green elements to their daylong celebration, including driving to the ceremony in a hybrid car. “The entire menu was all grown organically and locally,” Sunshine said. “We tried to make sure that we did everything by the book to really make this wedding as eco-friendly and green as possible.” Success!

In addition to using local vendors and artisans (which I am a huge advocate of!), the couple gave each guest an environmentally friendly gift bag. The reusable totes were from My Bag Cares– a company that plants a tree in the United States for every bag purchased – and were filled with $1,505 worth of natural and organic health and beauty products. Now that is a wedding I’d love to be a guest at!

The wedding is featured in in Touch Magazine, but I wanted to share with you the beautiful pictures they’ve posted online. Everywhere you look there are beautiful hydrangeas in purple, blue and green. I love the chiffon green bridesmaid dresses with an empire waist and sash – they are so elegant, chic, timeless, and dare I say, you could wear them again! No word on the designer of the brides gown, but she exuded glamour in her mermaid style gown. Also enjoy the randomly gratuitous picture of Jimmy Fallon (who is, coincidentally, a married man himself now :( )
