A Wedding Story: Danielle & John in Old Saybrook, Connecticut

Danielle and John were engaged while on a holiday in Paris…. and so it inspired their Parisian fete on June 19, 2010. We took little dainty touches of French style and weaved them through out the day. What can be said about Danielle? Well, she’s beautiful… inside and out… and with her style, charm, and sincerity, she is easily one of the most gorgeous brides I’ve ever seen. Together, they are one of the sweetest, most down to earth couples we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Big thanks to Carla Ten Eyck and her amazing team (Katie & Rebecca!) for these beautiful photographs that truly capture the essence and color of the day! All the day of coordination was brilliantly put together by our associate planners Jessica and Diana. Danielle and her beautiful mom, along with her maids, got ready in a suite at the Saybrook Point Inn & Spa. They were made even more beautiful by the talented Jennie Fresa and her Beauty Library team.

Their color story was jubilant and dramatic— shades of hot pink, feather, jadite, lilac, coal and sunflower. At my first meeting with Danielle and John, they showed me this beautiful inspiration board by 100 Layer Cake that stood as the muse for their colorful wedding. She wore the prettiest tea-length, ruffle Melissa Sweet gown from The White Dress by the Shore with aqua heals and a birdcage veil. She even had her hair in a playful English braid. Her maids each dressed in a different color chiffon dress from j.crew and carried bouquets bursting with color and florals like fern, fiddle heads and pink dahlias. The ever talented Elisabeth and her team from BLUSH floral studio created all the beautiful floral decor. Danielle carried a garden bouquet with a mixture of fluffy white flowers like dahlias, peonies and garden roses.

Prior to the ceremony Danielle and John had their first look in this dreamy, lovely, country-side setting. So pretty– even John’s wayward boutonniere!

Danielle and John exchanged vows overlooking long aisle sound, surrounded by nearly 200 of their family and friends. Their friends and family flew in from all over the world to be there for their amazing celebration– including Danielle’s beautiful grandmother. Hot pink rose petals lined the aisle and two elegant branch arrangements in coal colored urns flanked the rock wall. Friends read from Brown Penny by William Butler Yeats. We designed a gorgeous program on mint colored paper inspired by Laduree.

Their reception, held at the Saybrook Point Inn & Spa, immediately followed cocktail hour where guests enjoyed music by their string trio. The ballroom was transformed by Rob Alberti and his amazing lighting in shades of pinks, purple and amber. They had coal colored urns of flowers with rich colors spilled over on the tables dressed in ribbon taffeta. Inspired by a French tea party, gold encrusted bone china adorned the tables with playful mix-matched plates and ornate polished silver. The menu was designed on mint colored stock with hand stamped gold flourishes! Guests took home delicious pink boxes filled with French macaroons from Le Petit France of West Hartford, flavored in raspberry and pistachio.

Guests ate a delicious white buttercream cake provided by Saybrook Point Inn & Spa and a special West Indies’ cake that had been soaking in liquor for amount six months…. no exaggeration! Yum!

Congratulations to you both! We couldn’t be more happier for you and feel more honored to be part of your wedding day (and all the other festivities!). Life has amazing, wonderful things in store for the two of you and we can’t wait to see where it takes you. Big xoxo!

A Modern Photo Shoot at the Loading Dock in Stamford, Connecticut

At the beginning of April I flew back into the US from Paris fired up about the incredible shoot I had collaborated on with Robert and Kathleen Trenske and Beth Chapman. I had a few days to switch out my luggage from cute Parisian clothes to long, flowy summer dresses as we geared up for our trip to Costa Rica! In between, we planned a Style Me Pretty Inspiration to Reality shoot. Yeah, I know– are we nuts or what?! In fact, we left the Style Me Pretty shoot and headed straight to the airport for Costa Rica!

I’m so excited to share this shoot with you, which was featured on Style Me Pretty in three separate posts which you can view here: part one, part two, and part three. It was an honor to put together this modern, sleek, minimal, citrus inspired shoot for our friends at Style Me Pretty. The caliber of shoots that they feature are incredible and we are so grateful to be among them! The inspiration board for our shoot was designed by Style Circle member Lena.

spring inspiration board challenge

I love this board– mostly because it is such a departure from my own personal style. We all loved the minimal feel of the board, the citrus and bold colors. We took that as our main source of inspiration and set out to design a shoot with our incredible team! Speaking of, here are the talented and creative folks who made this shoot possible:

Photography: Carla Ten Eyck Photography
Flowers: Datura: A Modern Garden

Event Design: Jubilee Events

Event Planning: Jubilee Events with help from 14 Stories

Model Styling, Dresses and Accessories: The White Dress by the Shore

Reception Location: The Loading Dock

Hair & Makeup: Dana Bartone & Co.

Catering: Jordan Caterers

Cake & Confections: Ana Parzych

Invitations: Gus & Ruby Letterpress

Shoes: Zappos

Furniture Rentals: Taylor Creative Inc.

Ring Bowls, Place Cards, Ribbon, and Thank You Notes: Paloma’s Nest

Edible Champagne Flowers: Wild Hibiscus

Tableware, Glassware & Chargers: Party Rental Ltd.

Our color story ranged from bright white to orange, green, yellow, with hints of pink. We were inspired by the chandelier at The Loading Dock and integrated some of that sparkle in beautiful details and accessories– like the gorgeous jewelry and accessories from The White Dress by the Shore. Dana Bartone, inspired by the sleek makeup and styling of the model in our inspiration board, created a beautiful bun for our bride Kate. I love how her hair is so defined and slightly retro! The bouquet hanging in the chandelier and held by our bride, Linsdsay, was made of white miniature phaelonopsis orchids with lily grass.

Paloma’s Nest created wooden thank you cards for our couple that doubled as favors. They were tucked in glass line envelopes! Our bridesmaid, dressed in a lemon shantung frock from Chic by the Shore, carried a bouquet of trachelium, aspidistra and fresh cut limes , created by Datura: A Modern Garden.

I had SO much fun designing this tablescape along with Tony of Datura. It was a real challenge for me, personally, but I absolutely love the crisp and modern outcome! We used a ghost table from Taylor Creative Inc., as the basis of our design. Tony created a STUNNING centerpiece of curly willow branches known as “the cyclone” that grew out of the table and into the ceiling of The Loading Dock. It was accentuated with shades of orange clementines, blood oranges, and sweet valencia oranges. Tony wove in eucharis orchid’s into the tablescape for a touch of femininity and a pop of white. Each place setting had an orange glass charger with white frosted place settings. We submerged white frill tulips into the champagne glasses (one of my favorite details!) and also used them to top our clementine place card holders, which were created using wooden rings by Paloma’s Nest.

The paper suite was created by Gus & Ruby Letterpress. They decided on a clean, minimalist design that made use of the bright citrus color palate and hard, architectural lines of the industrial venue in white, orange, and grey with a hint of green. The paper suite was completely letterpress, including the cute citrus elements that we garnished our drink display with!

Tony of Datura created a citrus garland for our brides made of clementines, blood oranges and limes. The second bouquet, carried by Kate, was made of wedding belle daffodils with aspidistra. The menu cards on our table, also by Gus & Ruby were letterpress in orange ink and noted the delicious menu, as crafted by Jordan Caterers.

The ring bowl, an intrinsic part of the inspiration board was also by Paloma’s Nest. It was edged in gold and had our couple’s initials inscribed on the face. Our maid, Kelly, switched from a papaya colored jewel necklace by The White Dress by the Shore and into a custom designed necklace by Datura made of green hypericum berry, amber and minature phaelonopsis orchids.

The white leather couch was from the furniture collection at Taylor Creative, Inc. Ana Parzych created the White Tahitian Vanilla cake layered with Passion Fruit mousseline. It was finished in swiss meringue buttercream and vanilla fondant. Ana created fondant-molded pearls and hand-sculpted sugar lilies.

Jordan Caterers created a menu based on our inspiration board with sea infused menu items such as seared tuna, shrimp, scallops, lobster. They infused citrus in both color and flavor of the entrees and our cocktail bar, made up of key lime martini’s and passion fruit prosecco. We submerged edible wild hibiscus into some of our cocktails, too!

The AMAZING silver shoes with flower embellishment are from Zappos.com… our absolute FAVORITE website for shoes!

And a few behind-the-scenes images of our lovely and delightful photo shoot crew! Thanks to all for your creativity and hard work. It was such a pleasure collaborating with you!

Stay in Costa Rica — A Sneak Peak at our Playa Herradura Shoot by Buzz Media Company

I am so proud and excited to show you this amazing video byBuzz Media, one of our collaborators on our Costa Rica photo shoot for Stay in Costa Rica. Their talents are incredible and this video makes my heart (creatively and emotionally) feel SO FULL.

Big shout out to all the amazing vendors who contributed to this shoot Stay in Costa Rica, Carla Ten Eyck Photography, Jubilee Events, The White Dress by the Shore, Datura: A Modern Garden, Buzz Media, DD Nickel, Gala Cloths, Eventos Boadicea, Posh Paperie, Paloma’s Nest, Zappos, Primele Calligraphy, Ben Amun, Riedel, kate’s paperie, and Larissa Banting for local referrals!

Costa Rica: Behind the Scenes — Shoot Two!

In case you haven’t been following along, you can check out our behind the scenes post number one , two, and three for more information on who, what when and where. These pictures are  compilation of talent that makes up the Carla Ten Eyck team. We put together these amazing editorial shoots for our friends at StayInCostaRica.com, who are THE people in Costa Rica for luxury property rental, vacations, and destination weddings. Another big shout out to our set up crew on day two Diana, Tony, Susannah and Mark for all your hard work. You guys made this shoot more amazing than the first!!!

After our epic beach shoot at Playa Hermosa with our loving couple, Michelle and Alejandro, we woke up the next morning and decided to do it all over again! These shoots are a lot of work– especially when you do them outside the comforts of your own territory. In between shoots, we also had to be fully functioning businesses.

Tony and I worked on our laptops every day, getting back to clients and vendors in between the commotion. Good thing we set up the office in the bar!

Here you can spy Erik and Greg working hard, too!

During our scouting session, we decided our rain forest shoot would be at a small village / hotel community at the base of a large mountain, overlooking the ocean and waterfalls of the rain forest. This small village, I believe, was transported to Costa Rica from a Spanish country. It had a GORGEOUS chapel and amazing rain forest views. It was perfect.

So, we set up our tablescape right in the water. It.was.amazing! And totally on the fly. To be honest, Tony and I didn’t have much of a plan… but we worked together to put together something amazing with the natural elements around us. Working with Diana and Susannah, the four of us came up with a lot of awesome ideas on the spot! We wove leaves together to create a natural linen and used lots of growing vines that Tony cut down from the surrounding vegetation. The flowers? We cut them out of the rain forest ourselves!

Here is Tony rigging up something amazing for the back of the chair.

We got the idea to wet down the table which took it to a whole new level!

Meanwhile…. while we were setting up, the rest of our team was getting ready. Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore styled all our models for day two, and DD Nickel did hair and makeup. Here is our maid, Katelyn, getting the finishing touches by DD!

While we were setting up in the rain forest the rest of our team, once ready, first it up Alejandro’s surf shop in downtown Jaco. It was absolutely amazing! Here is Beth in action styling Michelle!

And here is Carla micromanaging posing inside the surf shop… to be honest, Michelle was amazing and didn’t need much guidance!

After the surf shop, the team was reunited in the rain forest and we began shooting!!!!

Here is Diana and Sara putting the finishing touches on our tablescape prior to shooting.

Sara looking out for Katelyn’s hair as she takes some gorgeous shots of her in this beautiful yellow dress! Isn’t she stunning?

And here DD jumps in to help Katelyn out… it was REALLY hot… and REALLY humid!! I give her a lot of props for being up on that little skimpy rock in those Michael Kors wedges!

There were snakes, lizards, monkey’s and Toucan’s all over the place!

We moved over into the chapel to do some gorgeous bride and groom shots. Here Beth gets Michelle ready!

After, we headed back to our spot and did some incredible shots of the bride and groom! Here Carla sets up a shot in the water.

Here you can see Mike from Buzz Media shooting while we look on.

Erik getting all crazy in the water with his hat, looking like he should be on a safari!

Here we all our snuggling up to the back of Carla’s camera… well, everyone except Greg, who’s more interested in his own stuff!! Burn!

After our rain forest shoot, part of the team went up the top of the mountain to our new friends boutique hotel (opening soon). Victoria and Enrique were such gracious hosts– you MUST see what an amazing piece of property they have!! Enrique is an architect and built the beautiful 5 bedroom boutique hotel which overlooks the ocean and the rain forest. All the wood you see is hand carved and native to the area. The shots we got here? Absolutely and positively INSANE!!!! Thank you SO MUCH Victoria and Enrique!!!

Just a little taste. Wait until you see the amazing short clip from Buzz Media!

Well, that’s the end of our behind the scenes look at Costa Rica. We are dying to show you the images — soon! We want to thank all the vendors that participated in both of these amazing shoots: Stay in Costa Rica, Carla Ten Eyck Photography, Jubilee Events, The White Dress by the Shore, Datura: A Modern Garden, Buzz Media, DD Nickel, Gala Cloths, Eventos Boadicea, Posh Paperie, Paloma’s Nest, Zappos, Primele Calligraphy, Ben Amun, Riedel, kate’s paperie, and Larissa Banting for local referrals!

xxooo!

Cinco de Mayo Photo Shoot

“There is something magnificent in having a country to love.”  One of our favorite photographers, the fabulous Carla Ten Eyck decided she wanted to do a photoshoot inspired by Cinco de Mayo and the Day of the Dead tradition.  She was inspired because not very often do you see an abundance of color in wedding shoots, so we decided to mix it up a bit.  I had the absolute privilege to work with Carla that day, as well as Tony Palmieri of Datura, A Modern Garden.  Honestly, you have no idea how crazy talented and incredible Carla and Tony are.  With every shoot they blow my mind with all the creativity they come up with!

Carla and her dad had A TON of goodies from Mexico–from masks to cards to flags.  We also added a great touch with some sugar skulls–for the Day of the Dead tradition, family members eat these sugar skulls as a sign of life and longevity in remembrance of their loved ones.   Add our models, Alicia and Carlos and it was pure magic!

Of course we had help from our good friend, Beth Chapman from The White Dress by the Shore!  She picked out a dress that was PERFECT for this atmosphere–she really has an incredible eye!!

The color on this altar was fantastic!!  Like Carla was aiming for– lots of fresh and exciting color!  Even with the most simple details, Tony can still create such masterpieces!!

While this shoot was something more personal and fun, it still gave us so many great ideas and worked our creativity just as every shoot does.  As always, I cannot wait for the next one… Maybe more personally inspired shoots to come!!!

XOXO

Diana

Costa Rica: Behind the Scenes — Shoot One!

In case you haven’t been following along, you can check out our behind the scenes post number one and two for more information on who, what when and where. These pictures are  compilation of talent that makes up the Carla Ten Eyck team. Our first shoot for the amazing StayInCostaRica.com began out at Playa Hermosa with our tablescape and ceremony set-up. Big shout out to our set up crew Diana, Tony, Susannah and Erica for all your hard work and sweat!  And if anyone is curious, this is what the temperature read when Mark dropped us off:

How’s that for hot? You might be able to get a peek at Larry’s dashboard there. He’s already had it replaced once!

Didn’t I tell you this spot was awesome? We had so many ideas for it, but as with most shoots, you never really know if your ideas are going to work or not. We had envisioned draped fabric between the trees like a canopy, filled with greens and interesting leaves that we cut down ourselves in the rain forest… Oh man, it was going to be so gorgeous!!! But nope, mother nature had other plans. And it’s called wind! I will always remember Larry saying to us, “Wow, this is so unusual. It’s NEVER windy here!” Figures. So we improvised!

We also planned on building a four posted structure for the ceremony. It was also going to be swaddled in fabric. Can’t you see it blowing in the LIGHT breeze, whimsical, simple and elegant? NOPE. First of all, we forgot a mallet to hammer it into the ground. Second of all, there is NO way it would stay. That thing was going to take flight!!! So what did we do? Improvised. Check out Tony below making it happen… because that’s what he does!

So much of what we do is planned, yet our best ideas are usually the ones that are not. Here is the team hard at work improvising and creating things on site.

Meanwhile… back at Los Suenos

The talented DD Nickel was on all the beauty of our gorgeous model, Michelle and bridesmaid, Magan. We hadn’t worked with DD before this trip but let me tell you, she fit right in. We love her! She’s the kind of artist that does her own thing and pays attention to detail. She understood our overall vision and then added her two cents, which is just how we like it!

Then our amazing crew and models arrived and it was down to business! We got changed out of our sweaty, gross clothes so we could sweat and be gross in some new ones. And also so we could make like we were guests!

Our amazing Carla Ten Eyck pack with Buzz Media in there too!

It’s hard NOT to smile when you see what’s inside Carla’s camera. And she always comes in with the sneak peeks!!!

Mrs. Beth Chapman from The White Dress by the Shore who single handily makes sure our models look amazing at every shoot!

This may be my favorite picture of all time. Carl Lewis with the sneak attack on Poop Shoe’s towel…. bloop!

This was one of the last shots of the day… mid afternoon… the skies just opened up and it started to POUR. I guess rain follows us where ever we go. There was a mad dash to get everything cleaned up and out of sight before the rain subsided. What do you do after a long day of set up and shooting in the open Costa Rican sun? Well, besides get your self a cocktail….

more to come… ! xo

Costa Rica: Behind the Scenes Part II

Our first day we landed in Costa Rica in the late afternoon and were welcomed by our hosts, StayInCostaRica.com and MMH Marketing with a cocktail and some delicious food– which was cooked up all week long by our man, Jose. To say we were exhausted would be an understatement! I must put this into perspective for you– the day before we put together an awesome photo shoot for Style Me Pretty and literally left Stamford, Connecticut to head to the airport (and wait 5 hours for our midnight flight!). With a 5 hour layover in Mexico City (which added to the delirium) we finally touched down around the time we wrapped up our photo shoot the day before. Weee!

The hospitality of our hosts really got us ready for the next day, which was a full day of shooting and scouting for locations. We met up with our photographers who got up to watch the sunrise and photograph our models surfing in the morning.  The spot for our first shoot was where Larry of StayInCostaRica.com and our models Michelle and Alejandro surf every morning– Playa Hermosa . It’s a black sand beach with gorgeous views. It’s also where the International Quicksilver Surf Championships is held every year in August. We decided that for our beach shoot, the parking lot would be our ideal spot. A parking lot — I know. Even Larry said, I can’t believe we’re shooting in the dump where I park my car every morning!!! But seriously– it was so beautiful and had every element we were looking for. And to be quite honest, we can make ANYTHING look good.

After chose the beach, Carla, Mike, Tony and I went on a Costa Rican adventure to find the rain forest location for our second shoot… wait until you see it! Shout out to our friends The White Dress by the Shore and DD Nickel who were also part of our scouting adventure.

My BFF Carla Ten Eyck and her studio joined us, along with the amazing Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore, my creative soul mate Tony of Datura: A Modern Garden, the extremely talented duo at Buzz Media, Mike and Erica, and the fashionable DD Nickel.

What’s better than having the opportunity to jetted off to Costa Rica and pull together a photo shoot for the incredible travel website, StayInCostaRica.com? Being able to do it with your friends, of course!

An American Girl in Paris!

I admit, it’s a tad cliché, but I couldn’t resist! I am so excited to be flying off to Paris to take part in an amazing workshop put together by two of my very good friends, Robert and Kathleen Trenske. Their Taking Off Seminar is an incredible opportunity for fellow photographers to travel with Rob and Kathleen to a unique location, where they will teach a variety of different topics, and also provide an amazing photoshoot. When Rob and Kathleen asked me to be a part of kicking off this workshop I felt so honored.. and never imagined that I would be able to go to Paris!!

I’ve been collaborating with my good friend Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore on the look and feel of our shoot. I can’t wait to share! Beth will be traveling with us too… wait until you see the amazing fashions she has pulled. Kim Petyt from Parisian Events has been helping us pull together all the local details for this workshop… which we seriously can’t wait to share! There are also some incredible paper details being created AS WE SPEAK (!) from our dear, dear friends at Posh Paperie. For now, here is a preview of our parisian inspired board:

This will be my first time in Paris. I’ve dusted off my passport, finished unpacking from New Orleans (don’t judge me… I’m a busy girl!), and started exercising again so I can eat croissants and macarons. I’m really only there for a few short days, but would LOVE to hear your advice on the one thing I absolutely MUST do while in Paris. Leave a comment below!

A Winter Wedding Photoshoot: Behind the Scenes

As you know, I’ve been doing a lot of creative and editorial shoots, some of which were featured in BRIDES magazine and Style Me Pretty recently. Over the past 5 months I’ve had the opportunity to work with talented and incredible people. Since we can’t show you the images from our super top secret projects, I wanted to show you some behind-the-scenes images and talk about what we’ve been working on.

This past December we had the opportunity to shoot at an amazing location in the northern hills of Connecticut, The Mayflower Inn and Spa. The setting really inspired so many details of our shoot. In every story we’ve set out to create, the vendors come together and collaborate on almost each aspect. It is truly a team effort – I’m happy to say – with each mind bringing unique and amazing ideas to the table. I have to admit not only am I SO lucky to work with these folks but I have THE BEST time doing it!! On this recent winter inspired shoot, we collaborated with Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore, Carla Ten Eyck, Tony of Datura, Dana Bartone, Corine Dell’Orso of Lovely Lollies and the ladies behind Posh Paperie from San Diego.

After several weeks of planning, our day always starts out with the arrival and load-in of our vendors. Our models arrive for hair and makeup, done by the talented stylists at Dana Bartone. Today, Miss Catie Bane waved her magic wand and created a stunning look for our bride-to-be!

Meanwhile, Tony and I are creating details for the shoot with the help of my staff. On this shoot we helped create three tablescapes and a confections table. It was a great opportunity for the new members of Jubilee Events (Ashley, Amanda and Diana) to get their feet wet in the creative process! We had a lot of beautiful pieces for our table and created several different looks at each tablescape. The details from the ladies at Posh Paperie looked amazing — from the escort cards, place cards, banner, pinwheels and pennant flags. We also styled up some incredible sweets created by Corine Dell’Orso of Lovely Lollies. Setting up all these details and tablescapes takes us several hours… we never have any down time!

The floral designer for our shoot was Tony of Datura – A Modern Garden. Tony is truly an artist and created almost all of our floral details right there. He is such a great person to collaborate with. He created a bunch of unique bouquets for our shoot using all different types of textures. He also created all the centerpieces and floral looks on the tables!! We had a lot of birch, some metal, and a variety of gorgeous flowers!!! We set out with a concept for our shoot and have definite ideas in place– but often create a lot of things on the spot that we didn’t intend or think of. Tony might be the best person I know at doing that! He’s so talented and creative.

Beth Chapman and Kelley of White Dress by the Shore always style our models. Beth brings a truck load of fashions and accessories and is constantly adjusting a necklace, bolero or fixing a wayward strand of hair. She also gets stuck holding all the accessories in the bitter cold!! Our shoots wouldn’t be anything with out these two–that’s for sure. They are fully responsible for making our models look incredible!!! I love to sit back and watch Carla shoot Beth looks– Beth, Kelley and I always get giddy at how gorgeous everything is!!

Once a shot is set up that’s where Carla Ten Eyck comes in. Seriously– without this girl, these shoots wouldn’t even be possible, and we wouldn’t have ANY fun. Once we get a shot ready Carla jumps in to shoot, direct, and make things happen. She’s the best at what she does! She also keeps us all laughing, excited, on our toes, and enjoying the hard work we’re putting into each project. She has some of the best ideas and is so fun to collaborate with.

In the end, we all work together on many details and are apart of each shot being set up. You can see us all pitching in to achieve the final outcome… which is always incredible!!

I hope to have more behind the scenes from some previous shoots we’ve done and most definitely New Orleans when we get back!!

xoxo

New Orleans Photoshoot: A preview — the inspiration board!

As many of our dear readers and followers know, we’ve been putting together some amazing photoshoots with our friend and photographer Carla Ten Eyck and the amazing Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore. I know I haven’t blogged much about them since our first shoot so I wanted to give you a sneak peak at what we’re doing this month!

This month we’re inspired by the color pink, layers of fabric, a flair for high fashion and the undeniable style of Jackie O. Unlike some of our other shoots which have all been Connecticut based, this month we’re flying down to New Orleans!!! Our incredible list of vendors AMAZES me every time I look at it — seriously — I’m so honored and pumped that these creative talents are traveling with us! We’re working with these incredible vendors and many more to come…

Shoot / table styling, Jubilee Events, Photography by Carla Ten Eyck, Gowns & Model Styling by The White Dress by the Shore, Floral Decor by Datura — A Modern Garden, Jennie Fresa & The Beauty Library, Cinematography by Vantage Point Films, Paper loveliness by Posh Paperie, Music and Entertainment by Dr. Jazz and the New Orleans Sounds, accessories and jewels by Twigs and Honey and Karen Lindner Designs, and calligraphy by Elizabeth Porcher Jones.

SO MUCH MORE to come!!

A Wedding Story: Harris & Soulaf at L’escale at the Delamar Hotel, Greenwich, Connecticut

I had the distinct pleasure of coordinating, designing and spending my birthday with Harris and Soulaf in September of 2009. They first came to me in 2008 on the brink of engagement wanting a wedding that incorporated Harris’ grandfathers home in Greenwich and Soulaf’s French Moroccan heritage. They began the day at Soulaf’s home where she got ready, surrounded by her parents and siblings. They were so fortunate in having the incredible Carla Ten Eyck capture every moment of their day. Soulaf wore an incredible gown from The White Dress by the Shore. She had on the most AMAZING custom veil, studded in hundreds of swarvoski crystals. It was truly breathtaking (and heavy!!!). The talented Ellie Esper traveled all the way from NYC to do Soulaf’s hair and makeup. Her beautiful bouquet, filled with white roses and orchids, was by Jessica’s Country Flowers.

Harris spent the morning with his brothers prepping for the grand festivities. He wore a custom suit with a very chic purple tie! His late grandfather, Irving, raised his family in the home where Harris and Soulaf were to be married. The back yard is an incredible oasis and the most beautiful backdrop to their incredible day. Harris and Soulaf met when she came to work at his pharmacy in Greenwich during a summer break from school. They’re romance bloomed and the rest… well, its history!

Soulaf’s sister was her matron of honor while Harris’ youngest brother was his best man. They had a beautiful ring bowl created by Palomas Nest.

Their arbor in which they were married under had roses and hydrangea weaved through out, created by Jessica’s Country Flowers. It was all white with draping fabric. A custom aisle runner was created by I Do Originals. They were able to lift a piece of their invitation design, which was a custom piece from Lilah Paper, and hand paint it onto their runner in purple, with silver and white accents. The beautiful purple and white program that Kalyn designed, with the same elements, sat peacefully on each chair. We had boxes of lavender rose petals for tossing. Pretty Moroccan lanterns flanked the aisle too.

… more on their amazing reception, up next! Big thanks to the incredible Carla Ten Eyck & Co. for telling their story so beautifully through images!!

Vendor Spotlight: Beneath the Gown

Photography by Carrie Roseman

On Sunday I attended a great party put on by White Dress by the Shore and several vendors who’ve moved into wedding row. One of my absolute favorites is Beneath the Gown, a fabulous company developed by master seamstress of White Dress by the Shore, Josie. Beneath the Gown is a bridal lingerie boutique presenting an exquisite collection of exclusive designer lingerie labels featuring french European couture fine laces and hand-made silks perfect for honeymoon, special events or everyday. Josie’s services include complimentary, professional bra fittings and in-house custom design service where we can customize or custom create bustiers, night gowns, and wedding gowns.

I have to admit — I was doing a lot of window shopping for myself while I was in Josie’s beautiful shop. She had some of the most delicate and stunning pieces of lingerie I’ve ever seen. I love the custom aspect too. In our chat we talked about how we can take a piece of my wedding gown and incorporate it into a custom piece of lingerie. Amazing!! I would love to be able to slip into something special that has elements of my wedding gown.

Visit Beneath the Gown on the web to learn more about scheduling an appointment. They are located in Clinton, Connecticut at The White Dress by the Shore. Be sure to tell Josie we sent you!!
