An American Girl in Paris!

I admit, it’s a tad cliché, but I couldn’t resist! I am so excited to be flying off to Paris to take part in an amazing workshop put together by two of my very good friends, Robert and Kathleen Trenske. Their Taking Off Seminar is an incredible opportunity for fellow photographers to travel with Rob and Kathleen to a unique location, where they will teach a variety of different topics, and also provide an amazing photoshoot. When Rob and Kathleen asked me to be a part of kicking off this workshop I felt so honored.. and never imagined that I would be able to go to Paris!!

I’ve been collaborating with my good friend Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore on the look and feel of our shoot. I can’t wait to share! Beth will be traveling with us too… wait until you see the amazing fashions she has pulled. Kim Petyt from Parisian Events has been helping us pull together all the local details for this workshop… which we seriously can’t wait to share! There are also some incredible paper details being created AS WE SPEAK (!) from our dear, dear friends at Posh Paperie. For now, here is a preview of our parisian inspired board:

This will be my first time in Paris. I’ve dusted off my passport, finished unpacking from New Orleans (don’t judge me… I’m a busy girl!), and started exercising again so I can eat croissants and macarons. I’m really only there for a few short days, but would LOVE to hear your advice on the one thing I absolutely MUST do while in Paris. Leave a comment below!

Jubilee Events featured in BRIDES Magazine! Plus, Behind the scenes video of our photoshoot!

I’m really excited about our recent feature in BRIDES Connecticut and all 16 regional BRIDES magazines (Atlanta, Northern and Southern California, Washington D.C., Chicago, Houston, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, and Southern Jersey). The first feature is an interview and sneak peak into my own wedding, which you can read about in any BRIDES regional magazine.

The second feature is Marie Antoinette inspired photoshoot we did back in September, which has been featured in the newest issue of BRIDES Connecticut (Spring / Summer 2010), along with Carla Ten Eyck, The White Dress by the Shore, BLUSH Floral Studio, Dana Bartone, Flower Upon Flour and Jen’s Closet. Also, the incredible Tom Morlock of Vantage Point Films was on hand for this photoshoot and has put together a great behind-the-scenes snippet video of our shoot…! Check it out below!!!

A Winter Wedding Photoshoot: Behind the Scenes

As you know, I’ve been doing a lot of creative and editorial shoots, some of which were featured in BRIDES magazine and Style Me Pretty recently. Over the past 5 months I’ve had the opportunity to work with talented and incredible people. Since we can’t show you the images from our super top secret projects, I wanted to show you some behind-the-scenes images and talk about what we’ve been working on.

This past December we had the opportunity to shoot at an amazing location in the northern hills of Connecticut, The Mayflower Inn and Spa. The setting really inspired so many details of our shoot. In every story we’ve set out to create, the vendors come together and collaborate on almost each aspect. It is truly a team effort – I’m happy to say – with each mind bringing unique and amazing ideas to the table. I have to admit not only am I SO lucky to work with these folks but I have THE BEST time doing it!! On this recent winter inspired shoot, we collaborated with Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore, Carla Ten Eyck, Tony of Datura, Dana Bartone, Corine Dell’Orso of Lovely Lollies and the ladies behind Posh Paperie from San Diego.

After several weeks of planning, our day always starts out with the arrival and load-in of our vendors. Our models arrive for hair and makeup, done by the talented stylists at Dana Bartone. Today, Miss Catie Bane waved her magic wand and created a stunning look for our bride-to-be!

Meanwhile, Tony and I are creating details for the shoot with the help of my staff. On this shoot we helped create three tablescapes and a confections table. It was a great opportunity for the new members of Jubilee Events (Ashley, Amanda and Diana) to get their feet wet in the creative process! We had a lot of beautiful pieces for our table and created several different looks at each tablescape. The details from the ladies at Posh Paperie looked amazing — from the escort cards, place cards, banner, pinwheels and pennant flags. We also styled up some incredible sweets created by Corine Dell’Orso of Lovely Lollies. Setting up all these details and tablescapes takes us several hours… we never have any down time!

The floral designer for our shoot was Tony of Datura – A Modern Garden. Tony is truly an artist and created almost all of our floral details right there. He is such a great person to collaborate with. He created a bunch of unique bouquets for our shoot using all different types of textures. He also created all the centerpieces and floral looks on the tables!! We had a lot of birch, some metal, and a variety of gorgeous flowers!!! We set out with a concept for our shoot and have definite ideas in place– but often create a lot of things on the spot that we didn’t intend or think of. Tony might be the best person I know at doing that! He’s so talented and creative.

Beth Chapman and Kelley of White Dress by the Shore always style our models. Beth brings a truck load of fashions and accessories and is constantly adjusting a necklace, bolero or fixing a wayward strand of hair. She also gets stuck holding all the accessories in the bitter cold!! Our shoots wouldn’t be anything with out these two–that’s for sure. They are fully responsible for making our models look incredible!!! I love to sit back and watch Carla shoot Beth looks– Beth, Kelley and I always get giddy at how gorgeous everything is!!

Once a shot is set up that’s where Carla Ten Eyck comes in. Seriously– without this girl, these shoots wouldn’t even be possible, and we wouldn’t have ANY fun. Once we get a shot ready Carla jumps in to shoot, direct, and make things happen. She’s the best at what she does! She also keeps us all laughing, excited, on our toes, and enjoying the hard work we’re putting into each project. She has some of the best ideas and is so fun to collaborate with.

In the end, we all work together on many details and are apart of each shot being set up. You can see us all pitching in to achieve the final outcome… which is always incredible!!

I hope to have more behind the scenes from some previous shoots we’ve done and most definitely New Orleans when we get back!!

xoxo

New Orleans Photoshoot: A preview — the inspiration board!

As many of our dear readers and followers know, we’ve been putting together some amazing photoshoots with our friend and photographer Carla Ten Eyck and the amazing Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore. I know I haven’t blogged much about them since our first shoot so I wanted to give you a sneak peak at what we’re doing this month!

This month we’re inspired by the color pink, layers of fabric, a flair for high fashion and the undeniable style of Jackie O. Unlike some of our other shoots which have all been Connecticut based, this month we’re flying down to New Orleans!!! Our incredible list of vendors AMAZES me every time I look at it — seriously — I’m so honored and pumped that these creative talents are traveling with us! We’re working with these incredible vendors and many more to come…

Shoot / table styling, Jubilee Events, Photography by Carla Ten Eyck, Gowns & Model Styling by The White Dress by the Shore, Floral Decor by Datura — A Modern Garden, Jennie Fresa & The Beauty Library, Cinematography by Vantage Point Films, Paper loveliness by Posh Paperie, Music and Entertainment by Dr. Jazz and the New Orleans Sounds, accessories and jewels by Twigs and Honey and Karen Lindner Designs, and calligraphy by Elizabeth Porcher Jones.

SO MUCH MORE to come!!

Harris + Soulaf = Mr. & Mrs. Grannick | L’escale at the Delamar Hotel, Greenwich Connecticut

I had the distinct pleasure of coordinating, designing and spending my birthday with Harris and Soulaf in September of 2009. They first came to me in 2008 on the brink of engagement wanting a wedding that incorporated Harris’ grandfathers home in Greenwich and Soulaf’s French Moroccan heritage. They began the day at Soulaf’s home where she got ready, surrounded by her parents and siblings. They were so fortunate in having the incredible Carla Ten Eyck capture every moment of their day. Soulaf wore an incredible gown from The White Dress by the Shore. She had on the most AMAZING custom veil, studded in hundreds of swarvoski crystals. It was truly breathtaking (and heavy!!!). The talented Ellie Esper traveled all the way from NYC to do Soulaf’s hair and makeup. Her beautiful bouquet, filled with white roses and orchids, was by Jessica’s Country Flowers.

Harris spent the morning with his brothers prepping for the grand festivities. He wore a custom suit with a very chic purple tie! His late grandfather, Irving, raised his family in the home where Harris and Soulaf were to be married. The back yard is an incredible oasis and the most beautiful backdrop to their incredible day. Harris and Soulaf met when she came to work at his pharmacy in Greenwich during a summer break from school. They’re romance bloomed and the rest… well, its history!

Soulaf’s sister was her matron of honor while Harris’ youngest brother was his best man. They had a beautiful ring bowl created by Palomas Nest.

Their arbor in which they were married under had roses and hydrangea weaved through out, created by Jessica’s Country Flowers. It was all white with draping fabric. A custom aisle runner was created by I Do Originals. They were able to lift a piece of their invitation design, which was a custom piece from Lilah Paper, and hand paint it onto their runner in purple, with silver and white accents. The beautiful purple and white program that Kalyn designed, with the same elements, sat peacefully on each chair. We had boxes of lavender rose petals for tossing. Pretty Moroccan lanterns flanked the aisle too.

… more on their amazing reception, up next! Big thanks to the incredible Carla Ten Eyck & Co. for telling their story so beautifully through images!!

Vendor Spotlight: Beneath the Gown

Photography by Carrie Roseman

On Sunday I attended a great party put on by White Dress by the Shore and several vendors who’ve moved into wedding row. One of my absolute favorites is Beneath the Gown, a fabulous company developed by master seamstress of White Dress by the Shore, Josie. Beneath the Gown is a bridal lingerie boutique presenting an exquisite collection of exclusive designer lingerie labels featuring french European couture fine laces and hand-made silks perfect for honeymoon, special events or everyday. Josie’s services include complimentary, professional bra fittings and in-house custom design service where we can customize or custom create bustiers, night gowns, and wedding gowns.

I have to admit — I was doing a lot of window shopping for myself while I was in Josie’s beautiful shop. She had some of the most delicate and stunning pieces of lingerie I’ve ever seen. I love the custom aspect too. In our chat we talked about how we can take a piece of my wedding gown and incorporate it into a custom piece of lingerie. Amazing!! I would love to be able to slip into something special that has elements of my wedding gown.

Visit Beneath the Gown on the web to learn more about scheduling an appointment. They are located in Clinton, Connecticut at The White Dress by the Shore. Be sure to tell Josie we sent you!!

Vintage French Inspired Photoshoot with Carla Ten Eyck, Part II

To recap from my previous post, a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with Carla Ten Eyck for her September Ten Eyck Tuesday. To view the first portion of this shoot check out my previous post, here! I collaborated with Elisabeth of BLUSH floral design and Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore on the color story of teal and pink. All the hair and makeup was done by the talented and super amazing Dana Bartone & Co., who are responsible for making almost ALL of my brides gorgeous on their wedding day (me included)!! My studio roomie Thomas Morlock of Vantage Point Films also shot the entire event from his viewfinder. He ate all the cake AND drank all the champagne!!!

Soo… is Signature Event Rentals not awesome? Their furniture totally made our tablescape go from cool to incredible. I loved their white dining table and we decided to use their Alice Pop hot pink chairs, mixed in with the white padded, clear backed. Elisabeth created a series of beautiful and simple pink arrangements down the center of the table in vintage milk glass containers… gorgeous!!

Party Rentals Ltd in Greenwich and New Preston supplied the hot pink glass chargers and some of the dinner plates. We also used their gold rimmed wine / champagne glasses and gold flatware. All the other pieces are vintage china (lots of limoges), including the tea cups and saucers, white/gold dinner plates and the aqua soup bowls are all courtesy of my friend and etsy shop owner, Jen. Check out her store, Jen’s Closet!

I added little bottles of Moet at each place setting and floated white raspberries in each champagne glass (they were yum!). The beautiful art deco napkins came from this fabulous antique store in Seymour, Connecticut called Yesterday’s Luxuries. They are made of linen and are so delicate and beautiful! Definitely a set of keepers.

Thanks to all the awesome vendors who contributed to the shoot! You can see more of it here on Carla’s blog!

Vintage French Inspired Photoshoot with Carla Ten Eyck, Part I

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with a lot of my absolute favorite people on a photoshoot with Carla Ten Eyck for her September Ten Eyck Tuesday. I collaborated with Elisabeth of BLUSH floral design and Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore to come up with a unique and fun color story in teals and pinks. Plus, he drank all the champagne.

For those of you who don’t know, Carla runs an amazing workshop for photographers once a month where she spends an entire day shooting, educating, and discussing her artform. I’ve attended two Ten Eyck Tuesdays and Carla is amazing!! If you are a photographer in the area (you should travel here if your not!) I highly recommend Carla’s workshop. They are so thorough and detailed. Plus, Carla puts the sass in sass-a-frass.

The location for the shoot was really awesome. The building is an interior designer’s dream, full of lots of shops from furniture to lighting. We took over a blank industrial space with nothing except a few sheets of unused drywall laid up against the wall.

This gorgeousness is all courtesy of Carla and Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore who dressed and styled our gorgeous models. Don’t you just LOVE this short wedding gown and feather hair fascinator? It was so delicate and pretty in person! I could have played dress up for hours with all the amazing accessories Beth brought.

That gorgeous, vintage pink bouquet is by the equally talented Elisabeth of BLUSH floral design. I love Dan’s peacock feathered boutonniere. Can you see the peacock feathers tucked into Mandie’s bouquet? Check the neck collage of images!

Pretty gorgeous, right? The furniture is from my FAVORITE rental company, Signature Event Rentals, who are responsible for most of the awesomeness you see. That gorgeous white couch? The clear-backed and hot pink dining chairs?! The leather tufted wall panels?!?! The WHITE dinning table?!?!?! Yeah, they pretty much rule. They’re the best, hands down, and we LOVED having their furniture at the shoot!

Elisabeth created a bed of tightly arranged hot pink carnations for our escort cards, which were pennant flags that I made and hand wrote in gold ink. Antonia from Flower upon Flour blew us away with her tasty little gold petit fours with the hot pink fleur de lis… but the pièce de résistance was definitely her INSANE cake!!

Antonia and I had discussed the color story and inspiration behind the shoot… and when she showed up with this…. we were like… seriously?! A teal cake with a gold birdcage on top and hot pink feathers?!

…. up next, our table and some other fun stuff!

xoxo

Fitting at White Dress by the Shore

I was so excited to work with the wonderful girls over at The White Dress by the Shore on my wedding gown and accessories (I did a feature on the blog about them last September). For my first dress fitting I brought along my friend Robin Dini to check out my dress. She surprised me with her camera and took some beautiful shots of Beth, Josie and I talking about different looks and the couture element of ruffled tulle I added to my Modern Trousseau gown. Am I super lucky or what?

Josie did all the alterations to my gown and has come out with her own line of fine European lingerie, sold exclusively at White Dress. Its called Beneath the Gown, and her creations are magnificent!!

The Little Short Dress

There is something about a short wedding dress that is so appealing to me. I love the idea of two wedding dresses because it is an opportunity to introduce another outfit into the day (fashion is such a love of mine). A short dress seems like such an obvious choice for the last hour of dancing and drinking; afterall, you really can’t move in most wedding dresses like you want (and no one can see what your mama gave you in a big ballgown). I’ve been doing some searching for a short dress but haven’t had any luck finding something I feel comfortable spending the money on. I’d love to be able to walk into Nordstrom’s and find her hanging there on the rack! Not going to happen I’m afraid. Here are some of my absolute favorite little white dresses.

Do you think I should change into a little white dress?

First off, I’m really in love with these gowns from Dolly Couture… they are so in my budget, too! Are they not gorgeous? Might be too late to order a custom gown at this point in time.

My favorite bridal boutique, which also just so happens to be where I bought my gown, launched The Little White Dress by the Shore, a collection of short wedding dresses. Love it! The first applique dress by Melissa Sweet I run to every time I go in. I am in love with it!

Photoshoot at The New Haven Lawn Club with Carla Ten Eyck, Datura, White Dress by the Shore and Jennie Fresa

Last Tuesday I had the fun opportunity of modeling for Carla Ten Eyck + Team on a photo shoot they were doing at the New Haven Lawn Club (which is super dreamy by the way… all the unique rooms and spaces, plus that checkered black and white floor!), with The White Dress by the Shore, Datura, and Jennie Fresa Beauty. It was a ton of fun! I wanted to share some of the photographs of all their beautiful work, including the insane floral designs of Datura.

Arn’t they GORGEOUS??

Yeah…. its a shawl… made out of orchids!!

Can you believe this parasol made out of FLOWERS and LEAVES? It was so angelic! I want one!

Jennie Fresa and her studio did all the hair and make up for the day. They did an AMAZING job. Jennie is launching her own product line and used all of her products on us too!

All the dresses, including that fun short little white dress, were all courtesy of our friend Beth Chapman at The White Dress by the Shore. My favorite dress was the red Jenny Yoo one above…. it is so beautiful!! I’m considering ordering one for our rehearsal dinner!

To see more beautiful images visit Carla Ten Eyck, Erik Maziarz, Katie Slater, Graham Scobey and Ashley Scobey.

So.. after this post… its all about my wedding. Stay tuned!

Trash the Dress with raw photo design

Two weeks ago I had the AMAZING opportunity to be photographed by the ridiculously talented Eric Langlois of raw photo design in Danbury, Connecticut. I contacted Eric many months back to set up a trash the dress session BEFORE my wedding and he was totally game! I wanted to do something different, fun, and geared toward me. I didn’t want to do anything that included water, sand, or woods–so not me. In college I would sneak into old, abandoned and decrepit buildings to photograph them (some of my favorites were Norwich Mental Hospital and Holy Land in Waterbury). I love the stories they would lend and it was so much fun to investigate their history.

Before we go any further — HUGE thanks to Eric Langlois of raw photo design who was totally game for breathing in asbestosis. Also, Tom from Paradigm DV collaborated with us and filmed the entire thing. I saw some raw footage of it and let me tell you, it is SICK (I can’t WAIT to share it!). The dress I wore was “Aimee” from Modern Trousseau via The White Dress by the Shore. The dress was so gorgeous and comfortable– it fit like a glove! My good friend Elisabeth from Blush Floral Design designed the most gorgeous bouquet, inspired by the vintage location we were shooting at. My favorite part? The little bits of tulle she incorporated through out the. My hair and makeup was done by Catie Bane of Dana Bartone & Co. She took my idea of Dita Von Teese and Katherine Heigl and merged them together. Don’t you think she did a super fabulous job? The birdcage veil and fascinator was from Brenda’s Brdal Veils via etsy.com.

A few years ago I came across this abandoned girls college in New York and knew that someday I would have to go back and investigate it myself. Eric and I were tossing around some cool locations to shoot at and then the light bulb went off in my brain! Armed with flash lights and bail money the three of us created a way inside and investigated the top three floors. The site was as scary and desolate as it looks above. The inside was VERY decayed and heavily vandalized; overall, it was pretty dangerous — a whole section of the building had caved in from three floors down (Watch where you step was really an understatement). Having been abandoned for over thirty years the floors were very soft, the paint chipped, weeds and vines had made their way inside. It was absolutely awesome and lived up to every expectation I had.

Eric had some killer ideas and his guidance was amazing. He has such a keen ability to make you feel COMFORTABLE in front of the camera. I was so nervous I was going to give bad Zoolander face — but he steered me in the right direction!!

On our way back, we jumped out of the truck and took a few photographs in this roadside field.. They turned out to be some of my absolute favorites!

Eric has so many more amazing photographs and a killer slideshow on his blog — click here for the slideshow and click here for some additional shots! I didn’t want to post all of them here so go show his blog some LOVE!

Be Engaged Series by White Dress by the Shore: Perfect Planning for the Perfect Wedding

Beth Chapman of White Dress by the Shore and Christine Toner of Stonington Paperie+Design have put together a very informative and fun series of conversations with leading wedding experts at their boutique in Clinton, Connecticut. I love that they are doing this — linking brides with the industries top professionals in a relaxed and inviting environment.

The event is scheduled to take place on March 22nd from 1:00-3:00 PM at The White Dress by the Shore in Clinton and features Michelle Rago, acclaimed event and floral designer and author of ‘Signature Weddings, Creating a Day Uniquely Your Own.’ The day will begin with a panel discussion moderated by Brides.com senior editor and author Anne Chertoff. The discussion will last about an hour and give brides the opportunity to ask the experts their own questions. It will be followed by a book signing featuring both Michelle’s Signature Weddings book and Ann’s wedding organizer from Russell+Hazel.
