The Importance of Wedding Cancellation Insurance

So many people through out Connecticut are feeling the affects of hurricane Irene this Monday morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone as they clean up and rebuild from such a devastating storm. Along with the property damage and power outages across the state, many couples and families are also devastated that their weekend weddings were cancelled in light of the terrible conditions forecasted for Saturday and Sunday. We know it was extremely difficult for caterers to cancel weddings this weekend, but the safety of traveling guests and their staff is most important. We also can’t begin to understand how the couples and families are feeling after having been told their weddings couldn’t take place with over a year of planning and emotion invested in such a special day. Our hope is that most of these couples had wedding cancellation insurance, which protects you from a variety of cancellations should something happen on your wedding day.  I wanted to take the opportunity to encourage anyone planning a wedding to invest in cancellation insurance. It guarantees that you’ll receive your money back from the insurance company should your wedding be cancelled due to weather, health issues, or a variety of other unforeseen acts of god.

You can purchase cancellation insurance from a company called WedSafe, which has several policies available at different price points based on your level of spending. For such a small investment, it’s worth every penny. In this business, we always say you have to have a plan B for everything because there are some things beyond your control.

This past weekend we had an amazing wedding in Old Lyme, Connecticut at the Florence Griswold Museum. Our clients hired us only a few months ago to plan and design their spectacular wedding– and at the very last hour on Friday afternoon, we made the call to take a 5 pm ceremony and start it at noon. I wanted to also thank our spectacular team of vendors who really pulled it together to make this happen. When faced with tough and uncomfortable situations, it’s truly a measure of someone’s character when they rise to the occasion and due whats necessary. Big thanks to our team here at Jubilee Events, Coastal Gourmet, The Florence Griswold Museum, Sperry Tents, Ryan Designs, Blush Floral Design, Lisa Berry Photography, Carla Ten Eyck Photography, DD Nickel, Ted Gibson Salon, Elan Artists + East Village, Divina Strings, Rob AlbertiLiberty Limousine, Bee and Thistle Inn, and Party Rentals. xxoo
