Home weddings are.our.JAM! We know the ins and outs, we love planning in such sacred locations, and we adore that it strongly requires a design, which means we get to know our couples even better! I was first introduced to Alicia and Corey through Mae, our dear mother of the bride who, we are certain, we could not adore any more! Alicia and Corey lived out of state and while Mae was holding it down in Connecticut, she opened her home for us to design and plan her only daughter’s outdoor wedding, a day we will never forget.

A tented, outdoor wedding allows us to build a home, for our couple and guests. A place where they create memories with one another and share moments of laughter that they won’t soon forget! The best part? Our backyard wedding can truly be anything we want it to be! The story in that tent reflects our couple, and every piece of this classic, beautiful, and inviting aesthetic mirrored Alicia, Corey, and their family!

We are beyond grateful that Mae brought us together because we were treated to the warmest, most hospitable and appreciative group of people! By the end of this wedding, we were looking for any excuse to hang out with this family. Our interest in Bridgewater Chocolate, the hometown delight certainly increased, but you won’t hear any soreness over this out of us!

The Outdoor Wedding Experience

Alicia knew she wanted their day to be memorable… to deliver an experience to their nearest friends and family. This is what we are all about at Jubilee Events, so we knew it was a match made in heaven! An outdoor wedding requires you to plan for a variety of pivotal moments, all that the guests and couple will form a memory around. Beyond the space, you have to consider all the elements that can contribute to everyone’s comfort, like temperature and terrain. Above that, it’s the seamless moments we don’t consciously take note of, but truly impact the moment.

You know the feeling you get when you intend to go out for a cozy dinner with your loved one? You enjoy your time, you soak in the ambiance, and you eat every last morsel of a carefully prepared menu. A well thought out cocktail and glass of wine certainly helps, too, but at the end of the evening, you leave feeling happy and full — in more than one way, as it should be! While it may just be the two of you, this experience can easily be transformed into a larger celebration and that’s exactly what we did.

Our home property was inherently blessed with a natural view that still, to this day, cannot be beat. It set the scene for guests to take in and be present in their surroundings. Yumiko and the girl power team at Hana Floral Design only added to the beauty. Just you wait and see!

From cocktail hour with freshly prepared and local fare (thanks, Gourmet Galley!) to the reception with an equally exciting menu and a band that flat out knocked our socks off! We made sure our couple and all guests were on the dance floor until the very last song. A big shout out to The Party Shop for ALWAYS bringing some serious heat. We love you and your musical stylings from the bottom of our hearts!

Connecticut Home Wedding Planner: Jordan & Mike

Jordan! My dear Jordan! My kindred spirit in all things cupcakes and dessert. Kind, genuine, and charmingly funny, all traits mirrored in her hubby, Mike! Behind everything the other one did, you always saw some helpful intent, something that said “I am here to take care of you.” Behind every action and every word was warmth and love. As I went through these images, the ones most noticeable were those of Jordan and Mike smiling. I found myself doing the same as I spent time with each one because their happiness is so infectious!! Tell me you didn’t do this as well!

Connecticut Home Wedding: The Details

Details and decor are something we have a keen appetite for and our family knew just how to love it the same!  Not only was our church the most stunningly ornate setting for our vows that day, but the bride’s family’s home was packed with keepsakes and ornamentation that told a story about them. Inside the home, Jordan’s mom had displayed her own wedding dress — as well as those of other family members! It made you feel like that little girl that ooh-ed and aah-ed over the array of gowns in the windows as you passed by.

Set under a dreamy Sperry Tent with lights to match the twinkling night sky, we created a room that would be colorful, energetic, and the perfect complement of summer and fall as we fell right into that particular season. We were so lucky to have the works of Elisabeth from Blush Floral Design gracing our tables and tent. To pair with our blue and slate tones in our linens and stationery, our florals were packed with warms hues in cranberry, marsala, and blush, bursting from their gold vessels (the dahlias!!!)! We used this plan for our table decor to inspire our amazing paper story, created and designed by one of our favorite masterminds, Nichole from Coral Pheasant Stationery.

Now this family was one after my own heart. As you may have gathered in my entirely too brief explanation of how wonderful Jordan and Mike are, these two are food lovers, most specifically in terms of dessert – my kind of people! One of my favorite details of this wedding was the create-your-own cupcake bar, courtesy of the amazing Sweet Maria’s. Here, guests selected their favorite flavor cupcake, buttercream filling, buttercream topping in any design they wish, and a few additional goodies to add a signature flare. Two of the most important aspects of the event came together in a smashing way!

My other favorite? Well, what happens when you have a little time between the end of the ceremony and the beginning of your reception? It only made sense to bring along an ice cream truck, none other than College Creamery, stocked with all of the nostalgic treats that we think of when we hear the jingle of the truck’s melody approaching our street.

Jordan and Mike, thank you both so much for allowing us to be a part of such a fairy tale day! We so appreciate you letting us into your home and bringing your story to life there. We wish you many days of happiness paired with endless amounts of sweets. Cheers to you and your families!! XO

The dear, sweet, and wonderfully infectious smiles of Jordan and Mike are on Carats and Cake today!! This is an all time favorite that we relive every chance we get. What do weddings mean to us? Well, many things! They’re romantic and so full of love. They’re exciting, bringing together so many details and pieces to a couple’s story. They’re the most momentous of occasions! Don’t you feel a bit giddy when you think about it?

Deeper than that, they are intimate and personal. They’re a celebration of a history, both of the couple and of two families coming together. Family is the most important part of a wedding and we are so privileged to see and learn about each of our couples and where they came from. Amanda and Justin’s family was no exception to this! From the very beginning, Amanda was smiling and bursting with eagerness to plan her and Justin’s special day.

The story of this family is a perfect example of how not everything may go exactly as you pictured it, yet this becomes a blessing in disguise. During planning, Amanda’s mother, who had been in remission, discovered during a routine check up that her cancer had aggressively returned. Much of her time was spent in the ICU and planning for future chemotherapy treatments and stem cell transplants, and Amanda and Justin were right there besides her the whole way. With this on their plate, this amazing family continued to plan a remarkable event with the biggest smiles on their face and excitement for the next steps. Together, they were all able to celebrate a stunning September wedding day, surrounded by immeasurable love. I admire them and I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t say the same thing!

Even more exceptional to their story was holding their wedding at their own private home, which was perfectly rustic, relaxed, and filled to the brim with colorful wildflowers. Plus, that view!! There was so much beauty and peace surrounding us and it couldn’t have been more perfect if we had rewritten history. Thank you so much to Meg from Rodeo + Co. Photography for capturing every last bit!

We had the perfect farm table overflowing with natural lush greens with blush and ivory blooms mixed with tall candlesticks creating a soft, romantic glow. Touches of gold and the cutest little hands of our ring bearers filled the rest of the table, which sat underneath simple garden lights and overlooked the lake as the sun set. Amanda and Justin’s three pups ensured each guest was properly escorted down the aisle and every bit of food had been savored. Also, check out that amazing cake, made by none other than Mom herself!

We see intimacy every day in various forms, and this was no exception! Amanda, Justin, and family: I cannot thank you all enough for allowing me to be a part of something so meaningful, so memorable, and so special to your legacy. I walked away so grateful to meet these amazing folks!

Natasha and Carter got married on a beautiful September day surrounded by their wonderful (and fabulously dressed!) friends and family. The ceremony took place at Carter’s parents’ home on the east bank of the Connecticut River in Old Lyme, Connecticut. In looking back at the pictures from the day I love the classic, romantic and simple style. To me their wedding is timeless– simple color story, romantic garden roses, sperry sails waving in the breeze and lots of champagne. Really, what more do you need at a wedding other than that plus good entertainment and food!

The reception took place at The Dauntless Club a few miles from Carters’ parents home. A scenic view of the water and passing sailboats, guests dined on delights from A Thyme To Cook at beautiful wooden farm tables and danced the night away under a bevy of chandeliers. Natasha and Carter along with their bridal party arrived to the reception by boat!

Destination Wedding in Jaco Costa Rica

I am so thrilled to share with you Mandi and Dan’s gorgeous destination wedding in Jaco Costa Rica, now featured in the newest issue of Inside Weddings Magazine!

Mandi and Dan were married in one of my all time favorite places on this earth: Costa Rica. I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited this beautiful country many times over the past few years and have made a lot of friends, memories, and participated in a few adventures! When Mandi and Dan got engaged they knew they wanted to have a destination wedding and as an avid surfer, Dan had traveled to Costa Rica on a boys trip a few moons ago and loved the country. While I was there on business, I scouted out some locations for them at Los Suenos Resort. They flew down shortly after and the rest is history!

Guests were welcomed to Los Suenos with these amazing out of town bags designed by Mandi’s mom, who owns a company that creates these custom masterpieces. I absolutely adore mine and tote it to the beach whenever I get a chance!

Mandi’s vibrant color story was shades of sunset mixed with greens. I absolutely love the palette her bridesmaids wore in all different colors. Color was everywhere and as it should be; Costa Rica is a colorful country! We couldn’t have pulled this off without an amazing team, who I want to give kudos upon kudos to in our credit reel. Seriously. They are amazing.

The Ceremony & Reception

Our ceremony was simple: a pretty structure draped with white linen, some benches with comfy cushions, parasols to shield guests from the sun, and THE Roberto Congoman on music. They have a CD. We have it. It is awesome.

We took over Casa Marlin, hid the furniture in the garage, removed the sliding glass doors that went out to the infinity pool and threw a rocking party. Long tables with centerpieces designed by Tony of Datura: A Modern Garden— mostly using foliage (and y’all say you don’t want foliage but look how pretty it is!) found in the houses garden. Yup. All the flowers you see– everywhere– from the bouquets to the centerpieces– Tony collected from the land. That’s what Tony does! He’s a floral magician.

Guests danced under a disco ball, aptly provided by our kick ass DJ who surprised us all with some blazing tunes. At some point in the night folks started diving in the pool fully clothed. We knew that was going to happen!

Lasting Memories

I have to say that I adore Mandi and Dan and their families. This amazing weekend filled with unique challenges (that only a destination wedding can bring! ever try to get a golf cart up a mountain? I don’t encourage it), lots of laughs, tears of joy, and feeling like you are more than just the wedding planner but an extended member of the family is the reason why I love what I do. I’m grateful to know that I get the opportunity to share in special life moments like this– where family histories are born. What an honor it is to have this job!
