In honor of tonight’s soiree at The Bee and Thistle Inn and Spa to celebrate the newest issue of Gala Weddings Magazine, I wanted to share with you all images from the gorgeous photoshoot we collaborated on with our amazing creative team! All of us share a special love for the undeniably beautiful Jackie Kennedy Onassis and have been dying to work together on designing a photoshoot inspired by her classic and effortless style. At Anne Barge‘s market run way show, Beth Chapman and I saw “Jackie” walk down the runway and we instantly knew we had to plan a shoot around this incredible gown that Anne designed, inspired by Jackie’s original dress. It just so happens that our shoot took place on the anniversary of Jackie and John’s magical Newport wedding (not even intended!). We worked with our team to design a classic, yet modernized wedding in shades of hydrangea blue with soft and bright yellows.

Some of my favorite details from this shoot include the customized menus made out of gorgeous satin ribbon with gold foil engraving, the ghost chairs we designed with Datura: A Modern Garden that included inset calligraphy as a place card and boxwood trimming on the chair backs, the classic half wedge of pineapple that guests truly dinned at at Jackie and John’s wedding, the customized blue taffeta skirt and white collared shirt by Coren Moore (Beth’s vision that was designed especially for our shoot), the classic hair and makeup by Dana Bartone, and of course, my own personal Louie Vuitton suitcase as part of the going away look!

In April of this year we were so excited to work with The Connecticut Bride Magazine and a team of stellar talent to produce a fashion editorial shoot for their Fall / Winter 2011 issue. We had the amazing opportunity of working with Connecticut based designer Modern Trousseau, using all their gowns to create a photoshoot inspired by the Classic Bride. In looking for locations, I had the idea to feature the historic and unique properties in Hartford, including The Society Room, The Old State House, The Mark Twain House, The Gershon Fox Room, Hartford City Hall and Elizabeth Park. Each backdrop served as it’s own unique inspiration– guiding Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the shore and Tony Palmieri of Datura: A Modern Garden in choosing fashion and floral to compliment each look! Equally exciting was to see images from our shoot used in Modern Trousseau’s national ad campaign in magazines such as Martha Stewart Weddings and Town & Country Weddings.

Vintage Cinema for the behind-the-scenes video, Beth Chapman and her team at The White Dress by the shore for the fashion and styling, Dana Bartone & Company for their two days of tireless beauty, Tony Palmieri and his team of assistants at Datura: A Modern Garden for creating our floral art, and Modern Trousseau for being the muse of our shoot!

Our first look was shot in front of the Old State House on Main Street in Hartford and inside the Gershon Fox Room, featuring Modern Trousseau’s Pearl Gown from their Fall 2011 collection, white leather gloves by Carolina Amato, jewels by Haute Bride including square stud earrings, diamond cuff and tiara, necklace by DK Designs and vintage black 1936 Buick by Carriage Limo. Datura: A Modern Garden decorated our vintage car and created the stunning white bouquet.

Our second look featured Gown the Savannah gown by Modern Trousseau as part of their Fall 2011 collection with black satin gloves from Carolina Amato. Earrings are by Tejani, diamond cuffs by Haute Bride, large cocktail ring from Kate Spade New York, and black tulle headpiece by Satya Twena. We shot in front of the historic vault at The Society Room, a bank turned wedding venue on Pratt Street in Hartford. The colorful bouquet and floral decor was created by Datura: A Modern Garden.

One look that didn’t make the magazine was The Kennedy Gown by Modern Trousseau for their Fall 2011 collection, which inspired our third look at The Old State House on Main Street in Hartford. I absolutely adore this space– with it’s high ceilings, white wooden walls and oversized gold chandelier. The back jewels of the gown are by aquinnah jewelry with earrings by Haute Bride. Tony from Datura: A Modern Garden created a bouquet inspired by the Royal Wedding.

The fourth look is Modern Trousseau’s Larissa Gown for their Fall 2011 collection. Our bride also wore a fox trimmed fur jacket, also by Modern Trousseau with earrings by Haute Bride, bouquet from Datura: A Modern Garden, and brooch from The White Dress by the shore.

Our fifth look has to be my favorite. When we got word we could shoot inside Hartford City Hall I knew I wanted to do a throw back, city hall style wedding. Modern Trousseau’s short lace Daphne dress proved to be the perfect dress for this sexy and sweet look. Our pillbox cap with cage veil and feather details is from the millner Bijou Van Ness with pearl earring from The White Dress by the shore. I absolutely LOVE the nude shoes from Badgley Mischka and the simple bouquet from Datura: A Modern Garden. Our groom’s attire is from the impeccable male clothiers at Valentino Tailors.

Our sixth look was at the historic Mark Twain House— whose history you simply must read! It’s an incredible Hartford landmark and one our state is so proud to have. A 20’s feel was the fashion direction that Beth Chapman chose for this look, inspired by the gorgeous feather trimmed cloche from Bijou Van Ness. Our bride wore long satin ivory gloves by Carolina Amato, Modern Trousseau’s Faye gown with a feather brooched belt and earring from from Haute Bride. The stunning round bouquet is by Datura: A Modern Garden.

Our final look couldn’t have been timed more perfectly for the blooming trees of Elizabeth Park, Connecticut’s famous 100 year old rose garden in Hartford. Elizabeth Park is such a magical place, especially during the spring and summer months. The dogwood and lilac trees couldn’t have been more of a perfect backdrop to the gorgeous Piper gown from Modern Trousseau’s Fall 2011 line. I absolutely love the colorful necklace from Haute Bride and sheer white wrist length gloves from Carolina Amato. Tony from Datura: A Modern Garden created all the unique floral decor, including the peony bouquet, floral ring bearer bowl, floral parasol and the GORGEOUS floral and greenery garland modeled by our bride!

I’m so excited to share with you today one of my favorite shoots of all time. The only way to describe this day in the rain forest with my creative friends is: magic. From the energy, to the inspiration we had that day, to the people– it was nothing short of once in a lifetime. When we set out to do this shoot we had a loose plan, and as the day unfolded and our excitement got the best of us, it resulted in this: an experience and high that I will never forget! From watching Carla Ten Eyck get overly excited about light, to seeing Tony chop down vegetation in the rain forest and creating beauty on a dime and Beth Chapman be so inspired by the surroundings and can change fashion in a second. Not only did we create something we’re so proud of, but we had the BEST time doing it. I want to extend a huge thanks to Stay in Costa Rica at Los Suenos resort and Michelle and Alejandro, our real life couple and models for the day.Even more thanks to Susannah, Diana, Daddy and for the helping hands and inappropriate jokes along the way!

This shoot was initially inspired by an anthropologie catalog I received a few months prior to our shoot. We went with a bohemian 70’s vibe and found the perfect location at the base of a mountain leading up to Pura Vida Gardens. The day started at a local surf shop where Alejandro works in the town of Jaco. More about this shoot can be found in our new e-zine, A Jubilee Event. From the Designers

Our inspiration for the shoot came from our real life couple Michelle and Alejandro, who are avid surfers. Costa Rica is known for some of the best surfing in the world and with this shoot, we really wanted to highlight that! We also wanted to do something casual, relaxed, and beach side that captured the easy going and romantic nature of our couple. A lot of what we pulled together was simply based on inspiration when we went to set up that day. Finding that instinct and intuition of the natural landscape really influenced our design. In our tablescape, my favorite spontaneous elements are the centerpiece of braided fronds, which was the brilliant idea of our floral designer. I also love the paper chargers created by Posh Paperie, that we intermixed with real leaf detailing on the tiffany blue napkins. The hair and fashion was inspired by runway and an anthropolgie catalog we received a few weeks prior. Overall it’s colorful, light, carefree, and playful, much like the beautiful country of Costa Rica. — Candice Coppola, Jubilee Events

The opportunity to work in Costa Rica was a dream come true! The lush jungles, stunning beaches and rich culture inspired me to keep the attire very natural. The accessories that we used were made from wood and shell. We brought in a small touch of sparkle, because every bride needs some! The bridal gown by was by designer Augusta Jones. I selected it because it had a very organic feel to it. The silk chiffon fabric was perfect for the beach setting and the touch of metallic embroidery at the neckline had an ethnic feel that made it perfect for Costa Rica. The bride’s jewelry and headband selected for the shoot were by Maria Elena. Both contained accents of mother of pearl.The bridesmaid was outfitted in a satin yoryu dress by Vineyard Collection. I loved the vibrancy of the color of the dress, but also the amazing flow that the fabric had. We accessorized the dress with wooden bangles from ben amun to bring in a natural element.–From Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore

This trip to Costa Rica was so inspirational in too many ways to list! The hair and makeup was inspired by a combination of the relaxed beach environment, the casualness of the couple, and the gorgeous styling of the event and the bride. It’s so important as a hair and makeup artist to understand the full vision of an event, so you can create the perfect finishing touches! Beachy, unconstructed waves for the hair really reflected the personality of the day and flowers tucked in the hair made the perfect accessory. For makeup, rich, vibrant color was the only way to go! Costa Rica is such a colorful place! I highlighted the eyes with bold shades of violet and teal and kept the lips soft in shades of pale coral and peach for balance.–From Deanna Nickel of DD Nickel Beauty

Before our actual shoot happened and was in motion I tried very hard not to have any preconceived ideas as to what I wanted to do or not do. I wanted to wait and see where we ended up- be it the rainforest or the black sand beaches of Playa Hermosa and let my surroundings inspire how I would photograph Michelle and Alejandro. Lucky for me these two were such naturals in front of my camera and so in love. For the most part I let that dictate a lot of the feel that I was going for in my images- and let the story line come naturally. We had a variety of weather that day,and I used it all to help set the tone but really and truly it was Michelle and Alejandro’s clear, obvious love that came through- whether we were shooting in the sun or the bone drenching rain!

My favorite image is from what we all thought would be the end of our shoot for the day- the skies had opened up and everyone scurried about packing the vans, stowing the musicians and instruments- and Michelle and Alejandro had already fled to the top of the beach to leave. I stopped them and, well since they were already soaking wet? I just had them enjoy being with each other, all wet and in fancy clothes! Michelle’s makeup held up PERFECTLY- and everything just jumps out of the frame at you- their skin tones, the drops of water all over them, the way Alejandro’s white linen shirt just clings to him, it’s all natural, real and completely romantic!–From Carla Ten Eyck, photographer

So much of the landscape in Costa Rica is dense and lush with saturated tropical colors and thick, waxy flowers. This beach was the antithesis of that, breezy and simplistic. I knew the florals needed to be a reflection of that. Most exciting to me was having the opportunity to work with new flowers, many that I’d seen only in photographs, still more that I couldn’t even identify! I chose to create bouquets that moved in the wind, a cascade for our bride and a fan bouquet for her maid. The inspiration for the floral jewelry came from the turquoise stones offset with shades of orange and yellow croton foliage and green shampoo ginger. Local fruits became the focus of the florals for our tablescape, melons and oranges simply accented with braided palm fronds. Fan palm provided just the right touch for the chair backs and gorgeous yellow and green flax foliage (clipped from the back yard of our posh accommodations!) accented the large driftwood pieces used to mark our ceremony. We absolutely loved being a part of this innovative & inspiring shoot, with such an amazingly talented group of people. Candice is really the one who came up with the inspiration board & colors that she wanted to incorporate. We took her initial storyboard and ran with it! We came up with a fun and funky pattern to use on several of the pieces, and designed an adorable “postcard style” save the date. The mustard yellow and moss green were a perfect combination for all of the paper goods, and the mix of a funky script with a block font made for a clean but fun look. To incorporate the “beachy” aspect, we pulled in shells filled with moss for the placecards to rest in. This was one of our favorite shoots ever to be a part of! I’m so excited to share with you a fun and colorful photoshoot we did at the Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Carla Ten Eyck and I hosted a 3 day workshop at the Ocean House before it was open to the public. We had the wonderful opportunity to teach photographers and planners the ins and outs of working as a creative team to produce an editorial photoshoot. Our preppy, new england inspired shoot below was the work that I collaborated on with our amazingly talented vendors who contributed so generously to our workshop and shoot!

We were inspired by the classic, preppy and fun look of bow ties, seersucker and bright colors. Some highlights from this shoot are all the incredible corals and blue colors that Tony magnificently worked into the tablescape arrangements and bouquets. Seriously… are you kidding? The irises? Amazing! And the incredible paper that Nichole from Coral Pheasant created– folded menu cards with covers, customized favor / place card boxes with unique paper flowers on top, mini bow ties that decorated our champagne glasses… need I go on?!

We also scored an incredible pink vintage bike thanks to our friend Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the shore, who styled our models for the shoot from head to two. We LOVE this lace Modern Trousseau gown!

I just have to say, one more time, how grateful we are to the amazing and talented vendors who contributed so generously to our shoot. We love the way it turned out and are so excited to share! Shot inside Belle Mer in Newport, Rhode Island, we designed a modern, sexy, city style wedding in shades of white, ivory and gold. It was a true creative collaboration between ourselves, Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the shore, Tony Palmieri and Cat of Datura: A Modern Garden, Dana Bartone & Company, A Little Imagination Cakes, Coral Pheasant Design + Stationery and the talented photographer Carla Ten Eyck.
