At this time, we all may be getting a little tired of the cold weather. On this picture-perfect day, we could not have been happier with the snow covered grounds! At Gedney Farm, Jubilee Events and many other talented minds joined forces to create an opulent wintery setting, rich with texture–wood and fur being our top two choices. Mother Nature served the color white and we touched it up with more masculine tones of navy, burnt orange, charcoal, and silver. To bring in a more modern look, we laid the furs across our mirrored farm table and aluminum Alloy chairs that were just to die for!

We loved that this design can be extended to any type of event, whether it be a winter wedding, an upscale dinner party, or other social gathering. Often times we see weddings are tailored to a more elegant, glamorous, feminine feel and having a different look for inspiration and ideas is a great way to make your story unique and easily remembered! The dark barn walls were perfect for our vision and the warm glow of our marquee lighting and signs added a pop of fun and creativity to our warm, inviting dinner table, which was overflowing crisp branches bursting out of colorful, natural blooms!

This shoot wouldn’t have been what it was without the team we had–from the gorgeous sweater dress and velvet tux our bride and groom, respectively, wore, to the custom LOVE lighting display over and behind our table to our sweet horse, Mr. Eddison that couldn’t get enough of the camera. Our approach to this shoot was a common idea–to go in and push boundaries, expose more of our creativity, and have fun!

As soon as Jasmine sent me images of Stella and Brian’s gorgeous May wedding at The Webb Barn in Wethersfield, Connecticut– I knew I was going to have a hard time condensing the images down for this blog post. Her images immediately transported me back to this fun, family-oriented, vibrant, jubilant, humorous, loving, and special day. Stella and Brian put so much thought into their wedding. I mean, they really thought about what they wanted this day to be. It wasn’t just beautiful to the eyes– it was beautiful to the heart.

They incorporated both their unique heritages in so many ways– and one of my favorite elements of this day was the “family tree” they were married alongside, which had pictures of those important marriages who came before them. After the ceremony, the took an impromptu polaroid of themselves with their guests seated as a backdrop, and added the image to an empty frame to complete the tree. It was so moving and unique!

Stella was one of the most beautiful brides we’ve ever had– perfectly herself in every way. I loved her gown, which had a hint of this blush / beige tone and of course, her gorgeous floral crown!

After guests enjoyed a personal and moving ceremony, they mingled and cocktailed on the patio outside the barn, enjoying lawn games, a glass (or two!) from the whiskey bar, and delicious nibbles from Emily’s Catering. As dinner began, they transitioned over to the lawn under a beautiful sunset with cafe lights above, long wooden tables nestled in the trees, and gold crowns for them to wear. Can I tell you how much I love these crowns? This crowd of family and friends were a jubilant bunch to begin with, but when then put them all on, they immediately shined brighter. I love the images of everyone toasting to Stella and Brian’s love with their fun crowns on!

The tablescapes were filled with gorgeous, colorful flowers in a variety of unique containers. There were books stacked with posy vases and little gold animal figurines (in looking at Jazzy’s images, some of these animals seem to have a life of their own and a personality to match!).

After dinner, they danced the night away inside the barn and headed off into the evening to continue the festivities. It was such a distinct pleasure to be part of this gorgeous and heartwarming wedding! Thank you to Jasmine of C10 Studios for these beautiful, beautiful images!

Britt and Peter’s wedding was held at one of our favorite wineries in the state, Jonathan Edwards in North Sontington. We try to make a trip there as often as we can since it’s such a beautiful and relaxing way to spend an afternoon. That’s exactly what Britt and Peter’s guests were treated to at their September wedding.

Britt and Peter wanted the event to be a reflection of their personalities, very casual and relaxed. They loved the rustic charm of Jonathan Edwards and wanted to dress the space for a wedding. We created a laid back vibe across the board– from the food to the decor. Guests got to enjoy a variety of food stations, which featured farm to table offerings. Keep reading to see images from the day captured by Iris Photography.

I can think of two words that adequately describe how spectacular Ali and Max’s barbeque rehearsal dinner was: Bacon centerpieces. Of course, I can think of several others to describe the event we helped plan for this genuine, sweet and utterly in love couple, but those are two of my favorites. Ali & Max planned an awesome tented rehearsal dinner in Darien, Connecticut!

Having the opportunity to help Ali and Max plan their rehearsal dinner was such a treat. We love to step away from the frills and formalities of planning a wedding to work on a smaller, more intimate event. This gives us the opportunity to learn their stories and translate them into details at a special dinner for their closest family members and friends. For Ali and Max this meant a laid back barbeque at the bride’s childhood home in Darien, CT, inspired by the time they spent living in Tennessee. Ali and Max picked some of their favorite Southern elements to share with their guests: A hay bale lounge, a bourbon bar stocked with the groom’s favorite spirits, and buckets and buckets of bacon for guests to enjoy.

We are so thrilled that we were able to share this special day with Ali and Max. If you can believe it, the wedding that followed was filled with even more love and excitement and we’ll be sharing those photos with you next!

Wedding Menu Bag for Baguettes

You may have seen Britt & Peter’s amazing, booze inspired save the dates we posted recently. We’re loving their paper story, so we wanted you to peep this awesome wedding menu bag that adorned their guests’ tables during their beautiful September wedding at Jonathan Edwards Winery in Stonington, Connecticut! I had this concept to place their delicious menu– filled with freshly grilled meats and veggies– along with refreshing salads and sides, on a wax paper bag with a baguette tucked inside.

Nichole of Coral Pheasant Stationery + Design helped bring this vision to life by creating this monster sized stamp, which we used to stamp the bags with the evenings carb delights. Britt & Peter’s wedding at Jonathan Edwards Winery was pretty awesome. Interested in seeing more? Check out their wedding post on our blog!

Wine inspired boozy save the date for a vineyard wedding in Connecticut

Paper Crush: Britt & Peter’s Wine Inspired Save the Dates

We are totally crushing on our clients’ paper stories as of late, largely in part to the talented genius of Nichole Michel at Coral Pheasant Stationery + Design. She happens to be responsible for about 99% of our clients invitation stories. These boozy wine inspired save the dates for Britt and Peter, who were married at Jonathan Edwards Winery this past September, are some of our favorites.

Britt & Peter wanted something fun to send their guests. Most of their guests travelled from far and wide to attend their destination wedding on the Connecticut Shoreline in Stonington. Nichole dreamed up this fun save the date with a red wine stain and some cheeky language. Love!

Rustic Wedding at The Barns at Wesleyan Hills

We love reliving this fun, cheerful and rustic wedding at The Barns at Wesleyan Hills of Rachel and Adam from this past June. I loved working with them alongside Rachel’s dotting parents on this gorgeous yellow, ivory and green wedding perfectly placed in on the gorgeous grounds and barn. They had an absolutely gorgeous day for their late morning rustic Jewish ceremony overlooking the giant willow tree at The Barns.

Rustic Wedding Day Details

Some of my favorite details are the day are the subtle infusion of lace. Everywhere from Rachel’s gorgeous Jim Hjelm gown, to the antique lace cloth that hung above them on the chuppah, to the lace wrapping around each napkin. Feminane, soft and with a bit of texture, it was the perfect compliment to the rest of their design.

The reception was gorgeous with tan linens, rattan chargers, vintage plates, pretty yellow napkins. The most beautiful yellow, green and ivory centerpieces by Blush Floral Design in large wooden boxes. The tables were overflowing with garden roses, sunflowers with their petals plucked (the perfect addition of green and brown!), ranunculous and crespidia. Each place setting had a sprig of rosemary and a menu card printed on card stock that looked like wood grain.

Guests danced the afternoon away to my new favorite band, like, ever The Rhythm Shop, who literally couldn’t have been more perfect. A Little Imagination Cakes‘s took inspiration from our save the date and created the cutest most delicious rustic cupcakes you’ve ever seen, displayed on tree trunks and wooden circles. Guests took hope chocolate covered oreos (Rachel’s favorite!) in pretty kraft paper boxes.

Rustic Wedding Day Paper

Coral Pheasant Stationery + Design created a truly unique invitation suite. Starting with wooden save the dates that had their intials and a heart engraved along with the date. For the invitations themselves, she created little wooden heart tags which were tied with gold and ivory twine, laced around a band of lace. Love! My favorite little detail was the wooden tags attached to the heart with Rachel and Adam’s wedding website engraved on them.

A big thank you to Carla Ten Eyck and Buzz Media Company for capture the still and motion photography for the day!

Rustic Webb Barn Wedding

Alia and Jason were married on a gorgeous, warm, early summer afternoon at The Webb Barn in Wethersfield. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, who traveled from distant places like California and Afghanistan, they exchanged vows under the big oak tree and danced the night away inside the candlelit barn. We loved everything about Alia and Jay’s rustic Webb Barn wedding design– from the simple rustic centerpieces of branches and moss to the fairy wings her niece wore– it was all inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream (one of my favorite Shakespearian plays). Not to mention, Alia’s dad quickly became my favorite Father of the Bride. Ever.

From the bride…

I knew the moment I shared my inspiration board with Candice Coppola, of Jubilee Events that I was in good hands. With a single glance at the moss draped tables, and woodland imagery and without knowing that I was hiding a tattooed quote from the play itself on my shoulder, Candice stated without hesitation, “OK so we’re creating a Midsummer Night’s Dream wedding!” And I was sold. My husband and I had agreed that we wanted to create an experience for our guests, one that felt unplanned and organic. One that felt more like the kind of party you happend to stumble upon vs a scripted and stuffy affair and one that ultimately put the surprise and delight of every guest at the top of the priority list.

Rustic Webb Barn Wedding: The Details

Our vision was executed beyond our wildest expectation with the help of some of the best in the industry, and I would throw an event a year if I could, just to bring them all back together again. From the road-less-traveled location of the Webb Barn and the wildflower beauty of Datura: A Modern Garden, to the palate intoxicating buffet of a thousand dishes prepared by Emily’s Catering, to every moment captured by the soulful lens of Judy Pak Photography, and entertained by the psychic DJ Revuelo of Scratch DJs, what transpired that day was a storybook love in a storybook setting filled with laughter and dancing, full bellies and even fuller hearts.

A special thank you to all who brought this dreamer’s midsummer eve to life.

Congrats Alia and Jay!!! Thank you so much for letting us be part of this historic day! XOXO

Nichole and Tim had one of those weddings where every detail was meaningful, beautiful and styled. It was such an honor to be a part of this wedding for many reasons– but mostly because Nichole is my girl. Becoming fast friends with her was easy– she’s so dang talented, funny, and a joy to be around. You probably already know this, but Nichole is the creative dreamer behind Coral Pheasant Stationery + Design– the hippest and most creative paper company ever. And after seeing her wedding and wedding day paper– all of which she designed– it comes as no surprise how successful she has become in this industry. Her wedding has been featured everywhere from 100 Layer Cake to the newest issue of Gala Weddings Magazine.

The story of Nichole and Tim’s wedding was so eloquently told by Nichole herself in a blog post, and we’ve shared it here below :) Don’t forget to peep the wonderful video by Jim Altieri of Vintage Cinema and obviously the stunning images by Carla Ten Eyck!

From the bride…”We were married in the charming neighborhood of Old Buttonwoods in Warwick, Rhode Island and all of our events took place within walking distance of each other. We popped over the the Casino (yup, we walked there!) and had our first look on the bowling lanes. Tim was wearing his heart on his sleeve that day and his tears made my heart melt. In remembrance of my mother, I tied a locket and her gold wedding band to my bouquet. I had worn her ring every day for the past six years only taking it off on this day when I would later receive my wedding ring from Tim.

Tony from Datura: a modern garden was the flower and foliage extraordinaire on hand that day. The only direction we gave him was to create a woodland vibe that included succulents ( I ADORE succulents!), interesting foliage, ferns, branches and orchids. And Queen Anne’s Lace. My mother loved Queen Anne’s Lace. She would tell me that while most people considered it a weed, she chose to see it as a flower growing in the wrong place. My bouquet included a patch of Queen Annes lace, placed at the top where I could see it.

After our first look, we hopped on a golf cart–the preferred mode of transportation for peeps who live in the neighborhood–and took photos on tandem swings. The swings hang from the oldest Buttonwood tree on the peninsula.

The wedding dress chandelier we created was major eye candy at our reception. My father rewired an abandoned brass chandelier and hung it from an overhead beam. That week while scouring thrift stores for finishing touches, we found a vintage white tulle wedding gown that made for a perfect lamp shade. With some wire, safety pins and more tulle (yes, even more tulle!) a beautiful wedding dress light installation was created. It was stunning against the wooden beams and a real show-stopper!

Tag sale elk antlers in all their glory! How sweet is the vintage Louie luggage with our Snug-as-a-Bug blankets? Candice of Jubilee Events scored that beaut on a trip to the Brimfield Flea.

Our dessert table was a hodge-podge of baked goodness that we adore–miniature bananas foster, strawberry shortcakes and chocolate brownie sundaes served in shot glasses, as well as homemade treats. My grandmother is a fabulous baker. Her two signature recipes are chocolate and cream cheese cupcakes with chocolate chips and apple pie. She offered to bake these delicious desserts for our wedding and I loved sharing her treats with all of our guests. We chose to have her apple pie as our wedding cake. The pie plate itself belonged my great grandmother and the milk glass pedestal belonged to Tim’s grandmother. The sign on top of the domed cheese plate reads: “A pie without cheese is like a hug without a squeeze.” –my family’s mantra when it comes to eating apple pie!
