Four score and seven years ago… feels about the length of time since I last shared some love on the blog. There’s no better way to get back into all of the beautiful, personal weddings and events we’ve been producing, than starting with a very important element of one of our most recent – and favorite – weddings! The wedding stationery for Molly and Griffin’s September home fete brought in so much personalization. Here, we were able to feature something that no other wedding will have, and that was a grand painting of the home that everyone knew, love, and called their home that day.

We were lucky to work with the magical mind that is Karri Lee Designs, a watercolor painter and stationery artist that creates one-of-a-kind paper masterpieces. You can check out a little more of her work and why we love her here!

Molly & Griffin’s Wedding Stationery

Molly and Griffin’s wedding was held at the bride’s family’s summer home, a place that hosted many memorable celebrations throughout the years. You can feel the sentimentality of the property as soon as you step foot onsite, and it’s safe to say not a single person left that weekend without wishing they could spend more time there. A place of calm, warmth, and festivity set the stage for the aesthetic we created.

For the invitation suite, the first piece of their wedding stationery, Karri created a custom vellum wrap, depicting a landscape portrait of the family’s home, yard, and the shoreline that surrounds their property and neighborhood. This greeting image later became their escort card display backdrop, held in a custom frame by the groom himself.

Day-of Stationery

Every design and decision we make throughout the planning process is done intentionally, to ensure any idea we bring to life has purpose and value long after just the wedding day. Dressed in an array of colorful envelopes were our escort cards, carefully adhered so once removed, this piece became a keepsake hanging in the couple’s home.

The idea of using watercolor was an opportunity to evoke part of our surroundings into tangible pieces shared with guests. The beloved image of the property was used throughout the table numbers, with added intrigue in a way where guests at each table had a piece of the image instead of the full picture. A simpler square of a watercolor acted as our guests’ place cards, attached to the menu card. For a more intimate setting that provides more opportunity for a design effect, all long tables are the way to go. Be sure to check out our post on the full wedding design to see just how we curated a setting that everyone is still talking about long after the wedding day!

Karri Lee Designs is a custom stationery studio specializing in personal, custom pieces. Karri, the Owner and Creative Director behind the self-named business, and though we work with her most often on wedding stationery, she does so much more! She has the mind of magic, as she takes such ordinary, everyday details and puts them on paper in the most beloved way!

In the digital age, stationery has proven to be important and valuable to its recipients. Stationery is the introduction loved ones have to the coming celebration. It’s also an element of impact that provides memories of some of the most significant times in our lives. Looking back at a friend’s RSVP cards she saved, there were handwritten notes from her grandparents who were no longer here. The sentimentality of their handwriting, their quips, and their love is something that she has because of that piece of paper.

One of the best parts about stationery is you can do anything with it. You can introduce new and different materials and be as adventurous with colors, styles, and shapes as you’d like. We’ve been fortunate to partner with Karri Lee Designs on a number of weddings, celebrations, and editorial shoots over the years — even some personal projects!

Each and every time, she brings new life and zest to the project at hand, elevating such a significant detail. She is wildly creative and makes this part of the process fun, engaging, thoughtful, and oh-so-beautiful! She also embraces her work with personal touches and authentic memories. She creates a moment within her work that’s unique to every single person she designs for.

Below are a handful of our favorite pieces from Karri Lee Designs!

One of our favorite elements about this stationery was including Martin, the couple’s pup, and the MVP of the day. No soul in M+M’s life doesn’t know and adore Martin, and it’s clear to see why, even from a watercolor image. See more of how their stationery ties into the full wedding design here.

This stationery suite was for a dear friend and colleague, Flowers by Justine. Married in Florida with the inspiration of golf, whiskey, and flowers, Karri involved these elements for a cohesive suite. Excitement was abundant with the inclusion of color and pattern within the suite. You may even notice the nod to the linens we brought in!

The last photo showcases one of my favorite details from a past Fall wedding. Here, Karri created a custom bar panel that emulated the pattern of our bride’s dress. It is exquisite and unexpectedly fresh!

Colorful, modern invitation suite

Wedding stationery is one of my favorite and most expressive elements of a wedding design! It’s the first real introduction to the experience your guests will enjoy on your big day — it invites so much personality!

Colorful Wedding Stationery: Save the Dates

Nicole and Mark’s wedding was every bit whimsical and vibrant as it was exciting and festive! To start, we decided to ignite a bit of buzz with our Save the Dates. Employing confetti poppers from The Confetti Bar, a mixture of color, sparkles, and custom name and date monikers gave guests all the need-to-know wedding details. The best part? Receiving videos of all of our guests popping open their Save the Date, bursting with the same level of excitment!

Colorful Wedding Stationery: Invitations

The invitation is the part of our stationery suite where we further tailor to the wedding design, giving hint to the day that’s unfolding. For Nicole and Mark’s suite, we introduced our colors of coral, pink, lavender, and serenity blue with punches of other tones throughout our vintage postage and hand-tied ribbon hugging everything together.

We love to infuse our couple’s story into the design in every way possible. It’s this that makes our wedding designs so memorable and experiential. Think about it: you attend wedding after wedding, but the ones that really stick out are those whose story evolves from the couple you’re celebrating! It gives you a story, however you walk away with many more memories.

One of our personal details came by featuring Nicole and Mark’s cats, Cookie and Stevie, who we affectionately donned the Love Cats. Though they couldn’t celebrate with us in person, we were sure to incorporate their presence in a few elements of the day with stationery being the forefront of those details! Making it even more meaningful, our Love Cats were designed by Nicole and Mark’s talented brother-in-law, Salvador. They came back in our day-of stationery, in our escort card display, bar signs as well as our dessert bar (more to come on this in a later post)!

Rustic destination wedding invitations with wood details and letterpress

What happens when THE paper designer for all the fabulous, high end clients gets married herself? Well, pure art! Our friend and bride, Vanessa Kreckel of the acclaimed company Two Paper Dolls married her wife, Lauren in a beautiful Maine destination wedding. Vanessa is known for designing some of the most gorgeous, luxurious, and outside the box invitations and paper suites. Her work will drop your jaw the ground and invite you back for more! She definitely knocked it out of the park with her own invites and stationery — so we wanted to share some of the magic!

Wooden Invitations: The Details

Vanessa & Lauren’s guests received this beautiful destination wedding invitation suite (I still have mine y’all it was THAT pretty!). The focal point is the wooden invitation, laser engraved with all the details of their wedding.

Tying into the vibe they created was a bit of unconventional verbiage: Lauren Elizabeth Martin and Vanessa Diane Kreckel together with our children, Landon and Cash, invite you to celebrate the greatest love we have ever known as we get married in a beautiful place, surrounded by beautiful people. Truer words have not been spoken. The suite was perfectly summed up with: dress snappy, be comfortable, you’ll be in a lot of pictures.

The accompanying cards included a double-sided letterpress itinerary card, a letterpress RSVP card and a wooden tag in the shape of the state of Maine that bore the following quote from Tao: the journey is the reward. An envelope liner with vintage drawings from Maine’s cost was nestled into a clean, ivory envelope. The most perfect touch was the rainbow color story of vintage stamps, a collection that varied across each envelope.

We absolutely LOVED these invitations! Aside from the custom language that graced the suite, the texture and unique details of each piece created such an impact for all. It invited everyone to prepare for all the love and excitement that they witnessed on that June day and became a special keepsake that none of us will be letting go anytime soon!

Ocean Themed Wedding Invitations

Paper is a serious obsession of ours because you can do practically anything with it!! Size, color, texture — and that applies to each facet of your paper suite. While these are just the start to how your invitations or day of paper is created, inspiration can derive from more than just your color story. Cue the design bells! And these ocean themed wedding invitations from Kara & Victor’s wedding are stunning!

Ocean Themed Wedding Invitations: Details

Kara and Victor’s invitation suite below was a perfect nod to who they are. They were a stunning introduction to where they would be hosting their nearest and dearest for their Connecticut wedding. It started with a painting, one that Kara passed every day in her Stonington home. There was something about the way it made her feel, it’s essence giving way to this peaceful, untouched atmosphere that invites you to soak up the moment.

Though our day of design was packed with warm summer tones, we balanced it out with pops of Pantone’s serenity and navy focused as an ode to the shore. The script and feel emulated the wedding decor as being classic and sophisticated with whimsical touches of floral notes on the RSVP envelope and card. The best part?! That beloved envelope liner you see was just that of the painting Kara adored, seguing into the perfect wedding day setting at the Branford House!

Thanks to Nichole from Coral Pheasant Stationery for tapping into our girl’s brain to put into paper form just what she experienced each morning.

Gatsby themed wedding invites in blush pink, purple, and gold with letter press and laser cut details.

Great Gatsby Themed Wedding Invites

Nicole and Patrick were married on a gorgeous summers day in June at The Branford House in Groton, Connecticut. They wanted to throw a Gatsby style affair and paid extra special attention to all the details of their wedding! Nicole (after my own heart) is a lover of paper– and found a kinship with stationery designer Nicole Michel of Coral Pheasant. They worked together to create one of the most memorable invitations (and day of paper suites!). These Great Gatsby themed wedding invites were inspired by Nicole’s style, her love of vintage, and the opulence of The Great Gatsby.

From the designer, Nicole: The wedding celebration of Nicole and Patrick was held at Branford House, a turn-of-the-century mansion with carved Gothic paneling and grand Baroque fireplaces overlooking the Long Island Sound. The magnificent Gatsby-esque venue, combined with details from the bride’s stunning beaded gown and palette of purples, pinks and gold was all the inspiration needed to bring this stationery suite to life!

The invitations were gold foil stamped and letterpress printed on blush Arturo cotton stock – duplexed to make it extra thick. Deco-inspired fonts were paired with beautiful calligraphy by MM Ink. Each invitation was mounted into a custom designed laser cut violet folio. For a modern take on the inner envelope, the folios were wrapped with a gold shimmer belly band each bearing the guest’s name in calligraphy.

The entire package was slipped into a gold shimmer envelope lined in a scallop pattern that was inspired by the beading on the bride’s gown. The outside of the envelope was just as carefully considered as the invitation. A collection of vintage stamps in coordinating shades of pink and purple adorned the outside and further ornamentation was added by MM Ink‘s gorgeous penmanship.

Tropical destination wedding invitations for Barbados wedding

Jessica and Matthew planned the destination bash of the year — and invited guests to join them in style! These custom tropical destination wedding invitations by Coral Pheasant were the perfect way to get guests excited about Barbados. We got to work with our girl Nichole Michel at Coral Pheasant to create a fully custom wedding paper story for Jessica and Matthew. The inspiration for these invitations were drawn from our own inspiration board and design proposal we created for the wedding.

Tropical Destination Wedding Invitations: The Details

Nichole is a magician when it comes to invitations. She’s always able to take our overall ideas and turn them into unique works of art. This suite was actually featured on Oh So Beautiful Paper— and we wanted to share Nichole’s words behind the suite itself:

The invitation suite features a color palette inspired by the island, with lush greens, pops of coral, and vibrant citrus tones, along with some gorgeous spot calligraphy and the most perfectly curated postage stamps. Jessica and Matt came to me by way of the fabulous Jubilee Events, who created the vision for their destination wedding in Barbados. Out of the gate I knew Jessica was my kind of gal when she expressed that it was important for their invitations to celebrate the sacrament of marriage while also being fun and surprising. Yes gurl, yes! Let’s do this! The tropical celebration they were planning embraced the natural surroundings of Barbados and more specifically their reception venue, Cobblers Cove, whose tag line reads “English elegance with Caribbean character.”

For their invitation suite we incorporated bright, vibrant colors inspired by the island: the lush green gardens, the coral colored plantation and cheerful pops of citrus. Gorgeous calligraphy by Everly Calligraphy was paired with modern fonts and fun language. The main invitation was letterpress printed on double thick eggshell stock and the enclosure cards were flat printed on matching, lighter weight cover stock.

Tropical themed vintage stamps and a lemon yellow silk ribbon added texture and color to the suite. Bringing the paper story full circle, we used the custom illustrations from the itinerary on cheerful colored cocktail napkins for the various weekend events.

With their wedding being a multi-day destination event, it was important to share all the details with their guests in a cute and concise way. To do that, we created a tri-fold itinerary with custom illustrations by Social Alchemy highlighting the what, when and where. Contrasting patterns inspired by the tropical English aesthetic of Cobblers Cover were layered into the design as seen in the watercolor leaves on the itinerary and the lattice-like design on the envelope liner.

One thing we love at Jubilee Events is creating the perfect guest experience. We are always looking for little ways we can make our events more enjoyable for everyone, so we were thrilled to learn about guesterly. Founded by former magazine editor Rachel Hofstetter and her husband Lorne, guesterly is like a directory of your wedding guests. When we flipped through this gorgeous, magazine-style book we found customized photos and fun bios of everyone attending, special shout-outs to the grandparents and all the details on how the happy couple met. One of our favorite sections: the seating chart lets people find out who they’ll be sitting with at dinner! (Isn’t that the tiny detail you’re always itching to find out when you are a wedding guest?) We love guesterly because it not only helps people create deeper connections and do some more meaningful networking, it’s a great way for couples to celebrate their guests. And it can be customized to reflect your wedding color scheme and match your existing paper suite. What more could you ask for?

2013-09-09_0001

2013-09-09_0002

Here’s how it works:
1. The couple uses guesterly’s custom software platform to quickly source photos.
2. Magazine editors – from places like Glamour, O, the Oprah Magazine, and Time – interview the couple to find out great stories about each guest. The editors then write fun bios based on the interview. (Or the couple can choose the guesterly Write-It-Yourself package.)
3. Magazine designers work with the couple to customize their guesterly’s design and create optional sections like programs, maps, where-to-eat guides, and table assignments.
4. Guesterly prints the magazine on heavy, archival paper, then mails a copy out to each guest a week before the event.

Guesterly packages start at $12 a book, with a minimum of 100; full-service packages start at $3,500. To learn more visit guesterly online.

Wedding Menu Card Ideas: Paper bag for individual breads with menu stamped

Wedding Menu Bag for Baguettes

You may have seen Britt & Peter’s amazing, booze inspired save the dates we posted recently. We’re loving their paper story, so we wanted you to peep this awesome wedding menu bag that adorned their guests’ tables during their beautiful September wedding at Jonathan Edwards Winery in Stonington, Connecticut! I had this concept to place their delicious menu– filled with freshly grilled meats and veggies– along with refreshing salads and sides, on a wax paper bag with a baguette tucked inside.

Nichole of Coral Pheasant Stationery + Design helped bring this vision to life by creating this monster sized stamp, which we used to stamp the bags with the evenings carb delights. Britt & Peter’s wedding at Jonathan Edwards Winery was pretty awesome. Interested in seeing more? Check out their wedding post on our blog!
